I think they could have done better. I think they were handicapped by the fact they kill most of the journalists so didn’t really have enough to jail.

A new report by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) ranked Israel as the third worst jailer of journalists worldwide, trailing only China and Myanmar, highlighting systematic assault on press freedom.

CPJ’s latest census shows 320 journalists were jailed worldwide by December 2025, with Israel ranking among the worst due to the widespread detention of Palestinian journalists through arbitrary arrests, administrative detention, and military censorship.
