This is exciting. I believe this is the right direction for Nostr streaming. Stream backends should record live streams and quickly send them to the user’s own storage. That way, backends don’t need to store streamers’ videos themselves, which prevents their hard drives from filling up.

This shifts the responsibility to the streamer and allows backends to provide better service and focus on streaming rather than storage. As far as I know, zap stream backends don’t do this yet. If you run a zap stream backend today, it means you’re responsible for storing your streamers’ videos—something I’m sure many administrators have no interest in managing so they keep recording off.

The simulcast feature looks very good. I’m going to try it out and report back with how it goes.
