The 1995 NASB (New American Standard Bible) is about the most well-rounded and easiest to acquire translation.
The newer ones have made some less than proper (IMO) decisions in a few parts that, while aren't what I consider critical, they are not what I would accept as being true to the sources.
A much more technically correct translation, but one that's not as easy to acquire, is the Lexham English Bible. It is done in a manner that exceeds my high standards by people I typically trust for both textual literal-ness and correct contextual background.
I have no use for most of the "easier to read" versions like the NIV (New International Version, which is outright confusing in parts), or the NLT (New Living Translation) which is exceedingly limp-wristed.
