I don't get where you infer this absolutism from. I'm perfectly fine listening to a rant of a friend, even if it's racist or something else I strongly disagree with. The issue I explained is the repetition and that it never ends up becoming more substantial than that.
Another example is my parents. I love them, but I can only talk about the weather so much.
