Sure it is a weird conversation, but "to end someone" and to predict that "something will be the end of someone" are two VERY DIFFERENT meanings, in my opinion.
Maybe I'm wrong, I'm not a native speaker, but I would interpret the first
"I will kill you"
and the second
"your opinion is so bad, it will end your career"
