Venus' movement traces a pentagram in the sky over an eight year period.
Lucifer (light-bringer) was a poetic description of this 'morning star.'
Lucifer was depicted by Romans as carrying a torch. He wase son of Aurora, the goddess of dawn.
He was not a major god (or devil). He had no larger mythos or back story.
The pentagram (and pentacle) has long represented lucifer.
