I'll be repeating this until someone gives me a satisfying answer.
I run knots because I like to filter garbage.
But as the situation stands, since taproot was activated you can already use the OP_FALSE instruction to store contiguous arbitrary data up to almost 4MB in size, which gets a 75% discount on top of it, vs 100kb for OP_RETURN that gets no discount.
Both are garbage, sure, but why cry so much with OP_RETURN when no such strong debates were ongoing before enabling taproot?
