I slightly disagree with you there (Though I've never trained a dog, I'm just going off what I've read). I'll give an example. Loose lead walking, to heel. Get a dog to heel, give it a treat, repeat numerous times. Try it with a lead on, heel, treat, walk, heel treat, for the whole walk if necessary. Repeat again and again till the behaviour sticks. Then, gradually reduce the treat, to say every 5 steps, 10 steps, 20 etc etc till you're just giving your dog 2 or 3 treats per walk. It is all about the dog, learning the behaviour you desire. Just because you stop giving it treats, it shouldn't then stop doing that behaviour. It's like potty training. Pees or poos outside, treats, again and again and again till they learn that behaviour, then phase them out. When you stop giving them treats for good toilet behaviour they don't just start pissing in the house again, do they🤷🏻‍♂️😂.
