Yeah the divide between the diaspora and the people actually living in the country seems to be pretty big – article mentions that as well, that Machado mainly catered to people outside of Venezuela.
Re favoring Maduro, I think this topic is a lot more nuanced. Not everyone (incl myself) who criticizes Machado and/or the US' complete disregard for intl law & imperialism necessarily supports someone who imprisons journalists and dissidents and runs a country in a way where many seemed to feel like they did not have a voice.
It's really one of those issues where when people think this can be broken down into some black and white thinking, it only proves they are a moron
