This is exactly that. I can only guess they wanted these parts made for cheaper and didn't want to hear the specifics how it was achieved by the suppliers. What you see here is not a part that's subjected to meaningful forces, yet it fell apart.
Some of these cheapening outs have bitten Stern in the ass hard, like the 2019 onwards issue where flipper coil stoppers fall apart prematurely, some in just weeks old games. You see me yelling at a cloud about that specific issue every now and then. People who bought a new in box pinball machine for like $15000 aren't probably impressed either that the new and supposedly reliable game falls apart because of $5 part.
