Allegiance to an ideal is so much more valuable than group identity because we (humans) need something outside our selves to achieve goals beyond our own incentives. This is why group faction (Bioleninism) thinking always ends up in conflicts from within and leads to moral decay and ultimately failure.

Exercised power outside of the agreed upon framework (the US Constitution) undermines our (American) credibility.

If we want to remain a global power with moral authority then we cant succumb to the base desire for control or resources.
