Yes, it is as Jacques Ellul prophesied. I do think there are things we can resist, not en masse, but as individuals. But it's a very concrete, local type of culture, as opposed to the totalizing one technology offers. See Paul Kingsnorth for more on this.
Also: people grew old before technology, but at human pace. Now, we grow old prematurely. Not only that, but we live in a different world than our children, and are alienated from them by the distance. It's tragic.
