campaign promises have zero weight. they're just as much PR as this. deprotation isn't even the goal. governament doesn't have the resources for that and it's too complex of a solution. voluntary self-deportation is a desired outcome and one i've personally observed increasing as many Muslim families are looking to move to GCC countries (arab demographic here primarily). legal deportation already exists in immigration law but in most cases it needs a criminal conviction to inforce. ICE provoking to get reactions can lead to such convictions so it is in their interest to get folks to protest them, even violently. more important to the administration is getting denaturalization legalized, and this is what i'd argue they are aiming for. again with this, they need a case so by using ICE to push, insight fear, and get people to react is the easiest way to find a case they can push (even as just for PR). and you are spot on to note that this activity is currently mostly in blue states/cities. that's expected to be an electoral win for him if the migration part actually plays out and tbh, dems don't really care because they are fully behind the surveilance state goals which ICE is actualizing.
