Seems inevitable for free relays. Wish there was more options for low cost relays. Right now there's only free relays that delete your shit after a few months and paid relays that charge $7 a month which is ridiculous if I'm only trying to store some miniscule amount of text based data. Honestly a relay with a token payment would be a great feed just for filtering out spam.
