Radical leftists view themselves through a militant perspective. Most public support doesn't understand how deep the militancy goes. Describing things from a military not civilian perspective will not make sense to most civilians who would like to think of themselves as regular nice folk.

I would prefer if plenty of federal agencies didn't exist. However I live in the real world, where I still prefer the government to execute the laws rather than having civilians openly fighting one another in the streets.

The thing with the left is that they purposefully play cute about what they are up to because they know they can't openly call for war without then being responsible for the war they called for. They are pushing for excessive response to justify their priors.
