No older siblings for me, but plenty of older cousins, some 20y older than me. I had a eye range of stuff introduced to me that way. The music you choose yourself is always meaningful though. I'll always have a spot in my heart for the first album I ever bought, R.E.M. - Out of Time.
I think more than anything with GnR it's the lyrics that get me. They were a "dumb rock band" but are a lot more meaningful than a lot of people give them credit for I think.
