Brie on Nostr: I should never have to publicly address something like this but I would like to ...
I should never have to publicly address something like this but I would like to further clarify and add additional details from my own experience as a further information on a comment I made last night (on an immutable nostr note with my hash)
May none of you ever find yourself in a position where you’re having to address things like this but, just in case, I would like it known I believe survivors and I know thing are often more complicated than they look
FWIW, to my knowledge, I didn’t flirt with pedophiles for 15 years… the person who made that comment is passive aggressively referencing my public entanglement with 1 early bitcoin dev
With that being said, I’ve been very open about my tech involvements and it’s public knowledge that I have deep ties to both the libertarian party and am/was publicly a crypto anarchist who was radicalized as a very young kid so really nothing new to see here … additionally I am very close in age to a lot of these devs (including the one likely being referenced) and we were in the same peer/age group during that radicalization period from roughly 2008-2013 so to my knowledge there was nothing inappropriate between/amongst us beyond young dumb kids maybe making some poor word choices
I personally was vehemently opposed to taking VC money (also public knowledge) and I was self funded - it was well known that VC money manager types scouted relentlessly the most technical among us
Anyone who refused to take the deals (myself included) underwent massive public smear campaigns along with humiliation rituals etc etc
*Additionally* speaking from personal experience, when I reflect, I believe those of us who were heavily surveilled were likely hand selected from a young age (due to technical and other capabilities) and basically tracked throughout our lives - men can be groomed, too
Some of us ended up dead and this breaks my heart every day
I can’t speak for the other devs but would not surprise me to find out this is just more of that
With that being said, we also knew that parallel to us functioning in our own technical sphere there was some very dark and sinister shit going on with other players in Bitcoin
But Bitcoin is for adversaries and I feel at least confident speaking for the most technical amongst us that we understood that to be a necessary evil for a neutral monetary network to exist 🤷🏼♀️ not sure what else to say about it beyond that
I do believe the large portion of open source devs I’m affiliated with to be decent human beings
