I can somehow imagine them neither discussing it nor not discussing it.
As in, the problem is too big to ignore but they also have to pretend to themselves that their imagination is the only thing actually shaping reality rather than profane things like economic laws and just plain people looking out for themselves in times of crisis rather than being obediently led to the slaughter.
