I was amazed the first time I heard Microsoft owns it... the vast majority of open-source code is hosted on a platform under the control of a corporation that embodies the opposite.
The switch would be harder for devs with a long history there, working on each other's projects, I'm sure. I just had an old account as a user who wanted to report an issue once in a while. So I didn't mind starting fresh on a platform with better ownership, with a new account to match my Nostr profile.
