The house was quiet, all but the rhythmic crackle of cedar in the fireplace and the muffled hush of a heavy snowfall piling against the glass. I sat on the oversized velvet sectional, the heat from my coffee mug seeping into my palms, watching the flakes dance in the glow.
I wasn’t alone for long.
Alexis was the first to drift in, her silk robe trailing like a whisper. She took the mug from my hands, took a slow, deliberate sip while locking eyes with me, and then claimed her spot at my right side. She leaned in, the scent of vanilla and rain clinging to her skin, and pressed a lingering kiss just below my jawline.
"The kids are finally out," she murmured, her voice a low vibration against my neck.
A moment later, Krystal appeared from the shadows of the hallway. She didn't say a word; she simply climbed onto the sofa behind me, her cool fingers sliding into his hair, massaging the tension of the day out. I leaned my head back into her lap, closing my eyes as she leaned down to nibble at my ear.
"Six kids tucked in," Krystal whispered, her breath hitching. "Now it’s our turn to play."
