I think once it gets to be too high, two likely scenarios may occur.
1) Nationalization of real estate by the state, already underway by stealth in a lot of countries under the "you will own nothing & be happy mantra"

2) Monetary reset that will wipeout most homeowners who are yet to pay off their houses and the equity of those who have. Bitcoin or gold will become the preferred currency of choice for sellers.
