A few years ago, I built an Android app with Flutter and tried to publish it on the Play Store.
After several days, Google told me they couldn’t approve it because of "inappropriate content for the target age group."
The „inappropriate content„ ?? A *💩* emoji somewhere in the app. IT'S AN EMOJI ! SERIOUSLY !?!
I removed the emoji in the Play Store version, but that was just the beginning. Literally every month, Google would threaten to take down my apps unless I complied with some new ridiculous rule or regulation. I even had to verify my identity at one point.
Eventually, I got fed up. I stopped playing by their rules, so they removed almost all my apps. And honestly, I don't care. I don’t want to feed content to that shitty company anyway.
I’m pretty sure a lot of other developers have had the same awful experience with the Play Store. That’s why I’m really happy to see projects like Zapstore (nprofile…tdq0) creating a real alternative 🫶
