I have no clue how these cashu wallets work, it seems you need the cashu token to restore the sats, so what’s the use of seed phrase anyway ?
AI says:
“Cashu ecash is bearer-style. If you do not have the proofs (notes) anymore, the mint does not maintain an account balance for you. Seed-based recovery only works if the wallet can deterministically regenerate and re-discover the relevant proofs with the mint. If the wallet fails to do that (bug/version mismatch) and your backup file is unusable, the funds may be effectively gone.”
But also this:
Minibits is explicitly designed to support recovery in two ways:
• Recover ecash using the 12-word mnemonic phrase (seed-based recovery).
• Recover by importing a wallet backup export.
Newer Minibits versions moved recovery into wallet settings, and there is a meaningful difference between “recover balance” vs “recover wallet address only”. If you picked the wrong one, you can end up with an address restored but not your ecash.
