The short answer is: to make validation more accessible to everyone.
The longer answer is: Since our cold storage is multi-sig we would need to produce more than one signature and validating signatures is difficult and complicated for the non-technical person. It is much easier for them to look at a block explorer and confirm that a transaction was spent from our cold address.
