It really is like that sometimes though unfortunately.
The Modern Fiat Slavery is a Debt Extraction System designed to keep people doing just ok enough to barely survive, and keep them in a perpetual state of semi-slavery which drains all surplus, and excess energy to do anything to escape this slavery thus keeping the cycle repeating until the system breaks under its own weight by the system breaking, or the people revolting.
People try to leave their work early to have energy to do any side gig that pay more, or solve other life problems but usually are so exhausted from their Fiat coworkers, and bosses to do anything other than sleep.
Bread, and Circuses, The Fiat World is really more screwed than most people realize.
