Other estimates range from 30,000+ (per senior health officials reported in TIME) to even higher figures circulating among activists and exiles.
These weren’t combatants. They were overwhelmingly young people—students, workers, teenagers, and yes, children—shot point-blank in the streets, in universities, in hospitals, or left to bleed out after being denied care.
Bodies overwhelmed morgues. Mass graves were dug in haste. The regime blacked out the internet to hide the scale of the slaughter.
