A new heirloom-quality wool coat made in the US with mostly US sourced materials (buttons, zippers, and other fixings and even thread may not be US made) costs between ~$360 and $1,400USD.
Vintage, quality pieces are very available for much less, but I'm wide, even if I wasn't fat, and finding a vintage piece to fit me is exceedingly difficult.
If you aren't as wide, you can buy a vintage coat that will outlast you and your children's children for a pittance.
