I agree with the sentiment but the Bank of England was built by a Scotsman who realised that if he had the ability to print the “Royal/Official” banknote he could print it out of thin air and lend it to the king who would pay him interest and then take that interest which was “guaranteed” by the crown and sell it to the population who gave him gold for this “guaranteed” return. And all this was done so the king of England go to war without having to raise taxes.
