Kind of late to complain about Silent Hill becoming an FPS. It's been years since that franchise no longer knows what genre it wants to be, far worse than RE, where Capcom pretty much accepted it’s just a shooter with horror elements.

I wouldn't say short in content, felt about the same time as the other Prime games, but the key thing in 4 is that the game has a very obvious path to follow, most of my time in Prime 1 to 3 was spent getting lost lol.

I finished Metroid Prime 4 pretty quickly. The game is insanely easy.
Let’s get the good out of the way first: the atmosphere and the soundtrack are probably the best in the whole franchise. But we live in an age where pulling that off isn’t exactly rare anymore, so it doesn’t carry as much weight as it should.
At its core, it’s still a Prime game. Very little has changed gameplay-wise, which I’m fine with. The problem is that nothing interesting was added either. They reused a lot from Metroid Prime 1, while 2 and 3 had some amazing powers that seem to have been completely forgotten.
This is definitely not a Metroidvania. There’s barely any incentive to explore, and the usual defense that the series was already streamlined doesn’t apply here. This feels bare-bones, boring, and unrewarding. That giant open-world hub is ridiculous. There’s nothing there. It’s just a waste of time.
The story is unremarkable. I appreciate that they introduced a new alien species instead of going back to the Chozo yet again, but these new guys aren’t interesting either. They basically look like humans in alien suits.
And the NPCs… oh boy. I’ve played almost every Metroid game at this point, and there’s this ongoing, almost laughable attempt to make the Federation more present across the series. It still doesn’t work. They were annoying in 3, and they’re even worse here. This time they tried to give them personalities, and none of it lands. The only likable character is the one who actually behaves like a soldier.
Metroid doesn’t need the Federation. If they can drop the Chozo, they can drop the Federation too.
Miles is incredibly annoying, like, really annoying. At least this time he doesn’t constantly interrupt you like in Prime 3, where the game just stops you from interacting with the world, but he’s still grating. And not in a “Ashley Graham from original RE4" way, somehow it’s much worse.
This is by far the weakest Prime game. I’d give it a 5/10. There are some fun moments, sure, but not nearly enough to carry the whole experience. And the fun moments are only fun because at the end of the day, this is still a Metroid Prime game, just a bad one.
Honestly, it’s kind of funny, if 4 had been the first game in the franchise, you could argue there’s an evolution across the series, because this one feels like a skeleton.

There’s some awful revisionism going on right now around the Wii U. It was a painfully boring console back then, and it still is now. Jailbreaking just makes anything fun. I have one and I barely ever touch it.
The 3DS is horrible to hold, I always thought it was, even with grips. I’ve owned over five DS and 3DS systems throughout my life, and only now have I realized that if you’re playing these games at home and offline, most of them really aren’t that great at all unless they were specifically tailored to be single player.
It doesn’t help that we now know the 3D and dual-screen features were just gimmicks that didn't really improve the gameplay in the majority of games.

You mean Mario's movement? I think it's like that across most Mario games, momentum and acceleration are a big part of the series, especially with Luigi feeling even more slippery in the games he is playable. Compared to DKC's tight controls (where momentum really shines in those specific rolls and bounces), Mario leans way more into that ongoing flow. I believe the idea of Mario's design is to encourage you to keep the momentum going with all those chaining jumps and tricks.

I finished Metroid Dread and it managed to surpass Super Metroid for me. Navigating the map feels incredibly smooth and there are small challenges sprinkled throughout. Collecting upgrades and solving the puzzles was really satisfying.
The OST is probably the only area where the game is noticeably lacking, the final boss theme honestly sounded more like a mini-boss track.
