X is a grotesque fun house mirror of the worst possible bad faith takes and interactivity.

However some of the biproduct of hate is also just the platform size and devolution of conversation at that size of scale.
As countries like the Uk and Aus talk of banning X, Nostr use will increase and I am wearisome of that mentality infiltrating nostr.
I don’t know how to protect against it, but X is a mind plague which threatens democracy and dissolves the center of politics, and we should try our best to protect what we have.

I’m not a nutritionist, and I cannot interpret the data correctly. I also think that a lot of the disagreements in nutrition come down to people who cannot interpret data correctly deducing absolute opinions from the data. Therefore I try to follow people who are qualified and unbiased, and do not talk in absolutes, who can interpret the data well and then merely show what the data represents. I try to avoid anybody telling me that any diet is the absolute unquestionable optimal one, even though I follow what is considered a niche diet, I don’t dismiss other diets and think most can be done healthily in some way or another.
I think the guy at nutrition made simple does a great job at this and he basically goes thru studies in a fairly unbiased manner and tells you what they suggest.

I would assume that we agree on a lot in regards to nutrition and realistically I am being very nit picky! because at the end of the day if people ate this way as advertised in the pyramid it would be far better the average SAD diet.
And I want to make it clear that I’m not even advocating for my diet, (im whole foods plant based) I’m simply advocating for what I think the research points towards and following the data over biases - of which the Mediterranean is always the clear victor, and it includes some but minimal animal products, which I don’t eat. I think my diet is best for me, but I think the best general diet to be prescribed for a large population without individual consideration would be Mediterranean - purely based on research. That’s not to say Individuals like us may consider keto, plant based or anything other diet more healthy for our selves and be able to eat optimally (or conversely some can find ways to do it unhealthily!) within that framework. I just wouldn’t prescribe those specific diets that as a general diet unless followed optimally (which generally just includes adding more Mediterranean aspects back in).
And I largely agree with you, but I’d just point out that most carbs in modern day food are ultra processed and usually are lumping unprocessed quality grains in with them which just muddies the “carbs” picture in a way that is unhelpful.
Anyways, all this is to say, I’m not arguing with you, just stating where I’m coming from (and like I said, it’s nit picky and I don’t disagree with anything you said)

There is a lot of research on keto and the results are mixed compared to Mediterranean diet. That’s not to say that one can’t live healthily doing keto or including meat in their diet, but the unwanted effects of meat are cumulative. My first comment was strong and I was just having a laugh.
But if I’m not just being purely facetious -
a/ red and some processed meats are carcinogenic and saturated fat should be limited and b/ whole grains are good for you and they don’t need to be limited. This research is undisputed (excluding “influencers”) and I understand people really want to see their diet represented by an FDA approved chart, but that doesn’t make it scientific, and I’m merely pointing out that our top and longest studies have found Mediterraneans to have optimal health and long lives and they have emphasis on different foods than this than this arrangement.
At the end of the day nobody follows the guidelines anyway so it doesn’t really don’t matter, but to say eat as much meat as you want consequence free just doesn’t reflect the quite unanimous research we have.

It isn’t.
But there is nothing wrong with whole grain food like bread and brown rice, and some meat is carcinogenic. These are flipped.
To promote it as top of the box is misleading and goes against all research we have.
Mediterranean diet eaters tend to live the longest and healthiest and their quantities of meat and whole grains are reversed.

I know right, I feel like that’s new though.
But underground music has always rebelled against the bullshit in music industry, like the velvets, or R Stevie Moore sending direct cassettes albums to anyone who mailed him. He was his own label. It seems natural for savvy indie musicians.
But I think you’re right, musicians are built different now. It’s all done for you on a DaW with AI and people wonder why musics lost a bit of soul haha.

Of course there is ambiguity and bias in any data, it’s impossible to remove. It even exists in this counter factual argument as well, which is not presented with corresponding data or evidence and is therefore just anecdotal narrative. That doesn’t make it untrue, I’m sure it is. But it’s not unverifiable in a way that makes it 100% clear for one to truly know if what is being said is real. It’s a statement.
People have adverse reactions to vaccines, drugs, innocuous foods all the time. It is not a gotcha and just because they do doesn’t mean vaccines are bad.
I don’t see anyone trying to ban peanuts and they kill orders of magnitude more people than vaccines. The fact that they’re floating around in many foods when people can literally die if they come in contact could be considered insane, but for some reason culturally we don’t think that.
Is there a hidden conspiracy with peanuts? No.
I don’t doubt that mainstream media, or even some mainstream research attempts to remove data points, limit knowledge - of course that happens. I don’t doubt that data, research and “science” itself isn’t doctored. That isn’t my point. But science cannot operate like that at scale, or at least for the most part because there is falsifiability, and adversarial review at every stage and in that way it edges toward truths, while making mistakes along the way.
Just because there is outliers and anomalies does not equate to all science being faulty or vaccines being obviously bad because someone points the inevitable but horrific outliers that happen when people consume anything - people die from eating paracetamol. While offering no scientific rationale in return, just trust me bro.

You’re right to point that out, and it was a sloppily made argument.
But maybe when I say “science” I view it as this.
I see science as the sieve, not the pile of sand. Science is the filter, not all empirical claims made ever.
Bad data, mad models, p hacking are eventually rejected and replication and adversarial scrutiny remain.
So to clarify my meaning, when I say data is data, I mean scientific data that has survived scrutiny, not all empirical claims.
Hypothesis > prediction > falsification > replication at the protocol level is what I trust about science, not the human layer error, which is real.
I am also not saying that I am right and you are wrong and my opinions are loosely held until better information arises. I just don’t see the case for anti-vaccine rhetoric being made in a clear scientific manner, and sometimes there is no pushback to certain topics and claims made in bitcoin land.
I do agree it’s a tempting and cohesive counter narrative to lies told by mainstream media, but to my standards it’s unverified as there is not sufficient replicable evidence for it.

Yes, it absolutely is. Shabby data is not science though. Distinguishing the difference between real science and not is hard and requires work. It’s much easier to say “trusting the science is bullshit because I found a few outliers by grifters” - sometimes those outlier grifters are presented as “mainstream scientists” .
And I agree with everything you just said, because if you are unqualified to interpret the data, a narrative can be crafted specifically for you and you can’t prove it right or wrong either way.
My point is questioning everything is tiresome, and so people accept a DIY alternative media counter narrative to a mainstream untruth as it seems logical on face value Without doing the work to assess whether it is true or not.

Reading a modern university textbook is not how you become experienced in any given field of interest. Becoming a scientist is a lifelong interest in a field. What you are describing is exactly what I’m railing against, a narrative crafted as science with all these science looking data points. DIY alternative media is equally as at fault with doing this same crafting of narratives as textbooks, or Wikipedia. And that certainly isn’t the scientific method. What I’m saying is that people unqualified to notice the difference are asserting things on both sides and muddying the public sphere of information. However, scientists, and people of experience in a field, can certainly tell the difference between a narrative and proper data and influencers who poke their head to mess around in a given area cannot in any credible way, yet they talk with authority like they can.

I’m not talking about made up data, which is not real science, and I’m not talking about science communicators distributing the data disguised as a narrative. I also agree that mainstream media presents nonsense. However, equally so does DIY alternative media on the other side of the scale. I’m also not saying that people should blindly follow what they’re told by mainstream media. Studies are fabricated, or bought out. I’m saying that good studies are done every day by good scientists in search of good evidence and good scientists can tell the difference and non scientists can’t. That’s not an appeal to authority, that is just true. If you learn something well, you can distinguish truths and falsehoods in that field better than people who haven’t. Anything else is dunning Krueger fuelled, unfounded arrogance. One also notices that good scientists never speak in absolutes like social media influencers. They suggest “the data leans toward these set of conclusions, which could be disproven given more evidence”
You can “do the work” and become an expert in a given field and verify these things for yourself. This is obviously a huge undertaking, so obviously one must outsource this. You can find trustworthy communicators that only use good data and research as evidence and explain why. You can also question everything and find influencers who will craft any narrative with hodgepodge studies with the information you are searching for and provide zero real verifiable evidence and that seems like science. This can be something that is presented as mainstream media sometimes.
This is why I trust that because very few immunologists and biologists are kicking off about vaccines, and a very large subsection of influencers are, that there is a mismatch in the ability to interpret the data.
Knowledge is power. Just because a mainstream narrative is untrue doesn’t mean the converse counter narrative is true. The world is nuanced, good data exists and it can suggest certain things are evident.
This is why I won’t buy the antivax argument until someone can present me with anything that isn’t just an anecdote or a weaponised narrative masked as science, because being a skeptic means remaining skeptical, even of scepticism.

I completely agree with everything you said. And I am certainly not arguing against skepticism in general.
But similarly to how no bitcoiner would be lectured to by a no coiner about how “Bitcoin won’t work”, I don’t get my information about science from a bitcoiner. Science can only be disproven by new data. It cannot be disproven by fantastic narratives.
I don’t trust science communicators, as they can have agendas, or even follow logical extensions of fiat fuckery, as you suggested - lies built on lies. But I do trust science, until it’s disproven by better science - the same way I trust Bitcoins transparent ledger. It’s observable and repeatedly demonstrable. I also distrust people who pedal narratives disguised as science, chiropractors with nutrition channels, and the like.
If you don’t have your skeptic hat on, you will get stuck in normie land, but science allows us to not have to “question everything” because there is already people who have done the proof of work. So conversely, if you don’t bullshit guard up you will spend your days trying to work out if the earth is flat, when people have clearly solved that mystery a long time ago.

I say, Don’t trust verify.
Science has objectively verifiable data. When people laugh and mock at “trust the science” it is meaningless. Data is data is data. Interpreters can be wrong or misleading. Especially people who have no fucking idea how to interpret data. Brett Weinstein, Joe Rogan and weekender DIY “science enthusiasts” haven’t somehow “figured it all out”.
That’s not to say that mainstream media wasn’t a shitshow, or that politicians acted rashly or even insidiously. But I don’t buy this mainstream bitcoiner black pill, anti vax angle that “everyone’s lying to you man”. The world is obviously more nuanced than that and not everything is a psy-op to be figured out, just because fiat money appears to be.
