I have to strongly disagree that keeping it secret wouldn't be difficult. Just because I'm involved in one of the major places they'd get such a sample (hospital). Like it would be a logistic nightmare and we tend to be extremely inquisitive people. And our lab has disposal procedures for samples once we are done with them.
Birth lab work would be the most likely point of access, and even the people I know doing that specific job have never mentioned actual lab samples being saved. The labs test for certain things and then presumably dispose of the samples like any other lab. I suppose all 50 states with all those labs could be in on it, but I doubt it. Possible. But big doubts. The NSA couldn't keep Prism secret and that was a much more centralized violation (one agency in one federal government rather than 50+ agencies in 50 different governments)

I agree it's inevitable as well. I don't think it *has* to be bad, but we don't have a great track record to assume it won't be, unfortunately.

I'm not quite that paranoid, but I also won't say it's impossible. That would be quite difficult to keep secret though.
