Thanks. I've dived into the world & IDE of android development (kotlin is now a thing I can instruct an effective LLM to code in!). The buzz I get from taking an idea and pulling it into the real world, a functioning application on my phone that interacts with exogenous stimuli (or me, & other noise sources) is powerfully addictive 😵‍💫🤓🤩.
The greatest issue I have with vibe coding, empowered by @nprofile…8ren (eternally gratefull), is that I don't sleep enough. But it is the absolute bollocks at distracting me from hunger during a fast.

A guy at work blew my mind when he explained that old lime mortar (any age) can be scraped out of a wall, put in a bucket with some new mortar and it turns back into fresh mortar.
It's completely recyclable!! Old tech isn't necessarily bad tech. He gave me a further 15-20mins on how great lime is (e.g. breathable, adapts to ground settling & loads of other things I've forgotten).
Anyhow, that cottage looks beautiful / brand new. Impressed at your skills.

I LOVED this interview. It's so inspiring to hear about freedom tech projects advancing in the shadows. I had the pleasure/opportunity to test fedimint at a workshop at Bitcoin Atlantis. The Fedi team impressed me there & this interview revealed how hard they've been working. I'm feeling really bullish about community custody (& I don't service my car beyond screen wash, wiper blades & an occasional oil change!), particularly in the under-banked / unbanked communities.

Thanks for the high signal, here's a small amount of value in return. I'm a few shows out but PLEASE stay audio focussed. Visuals (e.g. notes on your nostr account) as an add-on would be a bonus but I'm finding I have to stop, dry/clean my hands multiple times per show where they've leaned more heavily into video. It's frustrating, when I've hit a rhythm in some tedious chore, and am successfully transported to realms of self-sovereign contemplation / education, to have to stop what I'm doing and drop back into reality to work out what on earth they're talking about! It makes the task seem longer and I enjoy the show a bit less. Anyway that's my view. Thanks for all the work you put in.

Roasting chicken, being efficient and multitasking. Doing admin in parallel, like signing up the local pleb meet for the Blockstream beginners educational pack. Have alarms set for key times. Feeling like a capable adult.
Alarm goes off. Head downstairs. Discover the chicken's been in for 1hr longer than expected, but at the lower heat. Find meat thermometer. Probe chicken. It's definitely cooked.
Leave to rest. Head upstairs feeling grateful but less capable. Go complete sign up. Check phone. Time's reversed, it's now only 20 mins since the chicken was meant to be turned up.
Head downstairs, realise it's clock change day & the oven is airgapped 🙃. Lose all sense of capability. Put oven back on.
Twice-baked chicken's fine, right?🙄

Holy sh#t, IT WORKS!!
My coding AI & I have reached MVP3, I can now sync the music to either stock android or to a GrapheneOS device (and THAT, dear reader, was a painful journey, the last *day* of which was down to a missing '/' 🤦).
FWIW my feedback on vibe coding models (after about 3 weekends) is that Gemini Pro 2.5 seems much more useful than Claude Sonnet 4.5 after you get past the initial MVP. It is better at debug and iteration (IMO). Oh and it's also MUCH CHEAPER. @nprofile…8ren already makes it easy, relatively cheap (see below) & kyc free to use any model you want (🙏). It's also really easy to see how quickly each model uses your credit. In the debug/iteration phase, I found Claude Sonnet 4.5 was burning through $10 in a weeknd EASILY. Gemini Pro 2.5, by contrast, burns about $2-3 in a heavy day ehich is largely (ok, antisocially) dedicated to vibe coding 😶‍🌫️
Time for a celebratory dram.

MVP 2 is live!! 🥳
I'm finding Gemini 2.5 Pro much more productive than Claude Sonnet 4.5 (Claude got MVP1 running v quiickly, but was then dreadful at updates/iteration from there).
Now I have a GUI, the ability to tidy up unwanted songs (on the mobile) using mirroring, and the GUI even 'remembers' the last selection of playlists. 🙂🙂🙂
I've learned to use git for version control and have a local repo (next step is connecting to / subscribing to a remote repo).
My top tip is, ask the AI to freeze the interfaces as much as possible. Before I did that we were chasing our own tails. A bug fix would be implemented but also include name changes to keys or functions, thus trigerring more debugging which changed more names. After asking to freeze them, this (almost completely) disappeared. 😏
Watch out for the AI amnesia episodes. For a tool that is impressive at extracting meaning from my instructions and then pretty autonomous delivery based on those instructions, it often forgets why it did something 2 steps ago. I'm frequently asking, 'haven't we just undone that feature that you added because <reasons>!'
So many thanks to @nprofile…rzrk for sharing his way of vive coding & @nprofile…8ren for making it so easy to try out different models, cheaply AND WITHOUT KYC gate keeping / control. Bless you all.
Now to find a harder challenge...

Vibe-debug is how mine's going!
I left/flounced off from Claude Sonnet because each fix was implemented as a major rewrite of the code, frequently introducing something helpful like an undefined class.
Now playing with Gemini (I love having the option,, thank you @nprofile…8ren ), which appears to be work shy. I've just been told that what I want it to do is quite complex and 'we' could do almost the same thing another way...
I want to limit the number of music files copied over to / stored on a phone by positively selecting the chosen ones through playlists. Gemini thinks it will be easier if I 'just' define an exclude list of all the folders I don't want...

In case this saves you some time (I'd already made these notes for myself in Trilium):
Calle's way
Calle's guide to vibe coding (Citadel Dispatch 171)
Use different AIs, one for making the implementation plan + requirements, the other for coding up.
He uses Goose & Cursor (shows him to switch between models - use ppq.ai for same functionality)
If wanting to understand existing code, he used Gemini to explore and describe it to him.
His work flow:
1) create Implementation plan (list of things that need to be done in order). Steps to achieve overall project
2) create requirements in each step (to fulfil that step) [my addition, after 1st application of this workflow, getting the first AI to produce a simple user manual is also helpful for the next AI & to sanity check that it understands how you want to use your project]
3) pass all of that to a new AI (e.g. Claude)
For bitchat, he spent ½ day iterating like this and had a working MVP with basic features. As project scales, or for niche / specialist code (not many examples for AI to learn from) manual coding is required. When project becomes large, AI loses context, large bodies of redundant / unused code etc.

I've just vibe coded a (really basic) MVP for syncing my music playlists from Ubuntu to my phone. I know this sounds trivial but, thanks to a history rich in iTunes (forgive me, it was convenient at at time I knew not better), it wasn't. Anyway how I feel now is:
I AM INVINCIBLE

I love being in this space. When I get over the current wave of feeling like the stupidest person in the room, I learn so much & get to put that learning into practice. 🔥

So, 23 steps (and still Phase 1) into our 7-phase implementation plan (my first go at vibe coding), it became clear that that my overacheiving AI partner was taking this thing to enterprise level, rather than a manually triggered home use app.🤣
Quiet words were had. Some possible simplifications identified (starting with the audit logs, cron job automated scheduler and cross platform consistency checks!). And we begin again.
I'm loving the total absence of any blame or frustration for my ambiguous instructions 🙂
