I saw a video of an angry black woman on a subway loudly referring to a nearby white woman as "Miss Vanilla," clearly intending it as a racial slur.
Is anyone really offended by being called a flavor or a food item?
I can't imagine losing my cool at being called vanilla, white bread, or cracker. Seems silly. I'm not very offendable.
But it's probably hate speech to call someone else dark chocolate, burnt toast, or graham cracker.

When people die -- especially those we have been close to -- I think it's good to remember they are not "gone" or " out of the picture. " They don't exist merely in our memories, but in reality.
They still exist consciously, though outside of the body until the resurrection. Meanwhile, unlike us, their eternal fate is sealed. There is no reversing course.
That's great for those who died in friendship with God.
Tragic for those who are condemned. We can always change and repent, but they have no more hope. They've had their opportunity. They are eternally doomed.
We need to make the right choices now while we still can.

I learned that "tranny" is a forbidden slur, while "transphobe" is not.
The people who are so hung up on what they perceive as slurs are the ones who decide for everyone which words are slurs. (As if "slurs" are the greatest of all societal evils.)

I'm living a normy life, not counting on volatile crypto prices to make me wealthy, but with the option to use crypto as private digital cash.
I invest in mutual funds and retirement accounts, which are historically reliable, and I use #Monero as often as desired, because I like its ability to make private transactions.
If the USD price of Monero skyrockets, that's cool. But if not, that's cool, too. Not stressing.
Crypto was not meant to be an "investment," but to be used as permissionless, peer-to-peer digital cash. It's for making transactions.
Greed is what ruins the crypto experience.
For anyone else reading this, I say don't stake your life on high hopes for wealth that comes from owning traceable Bitcoin. Play with it, use it wisely -- but know that it is not going to make your eldest fans come true.

If Bitcoin does not promise to skyrocket in price -- and instead stabilizes long term -- what advantage can it have over #Monero?
The beauty and advantage of XMR is that no matter its price in relation to fiat, it works as private, fungible, digital cash.
That's its one job. That's what it does well.
Any fiat price gains it has is a bonus, not its promise.
In the end, we value "gains" in wealth less than the gain of freedom and #privacy.

There is no such thing as "gay sex."

Schiff is anti-Bitcoin because (for one) he says the reason everyone buys it is they think they will get rich, though it doesn't have inherent value.

Kinda funny how I feel slightly bummed that it looks like #Monero (XMR) appears to be peaking "only" in the $700-some range. (I was amazed when it reached $400!)

The fact that there can be bad popes does not invalidate the Catholic Church -- just as bad Christian laypersons or lay leaders don't invalidate the claims of Christianity.

How do you manage yours? I really don't know what others do. I'm not sure what the standard practice is.
But maybe when clients provide people an nsec, they should make a practical suggestion rather than only saying "don't share your nsec with anyone else." Maybe they should add something like, "One popular way to save and protect your secret key is to use a trusted password manager, such as...."
But then I dont know how many normal people are familiar with password managers. I only started using them during COVID when I become privacy conscious.
I don't have easy answers. I'm still working on getting people to ditch SMS messages for FOSS encrypted messengers.
When people don't care about commonsense privacy, they don't care to make any extra effort regarding messengers, emails, crypto, or social media. They're products of the system.

I bought $100 of #Bitcoin using #Monero around three weeks ago.
That Bitcoin is $92 now, and the Monero is $106.
This is an ongoing comparison experiment to see how the value fluctuates.
I know such a narrow snapshot is not even close to being a fair indication that leads to an overall conclusion, but still.
With its built-in #privacy, I'm happy with being all in with Monero. The privacy is worth more to me than numbers, because I don't trust the direction of our increasingly technocratic, big-brother society.
Not that any crypto will save the world (that's Jesus' job), but having Monero can certainly be helpful with regard to privacy. The same can be said for encrypted messaging (e.g., #SimpleX, #Session, #Signal, #PGP, OMEMO, et al): not the solution, but helpful.

At a community play a couple nights ago, a quite elderly man was holding the door of the restroom while a couple of us were entering. We thanked him politely.
I had gone in quickly only to grab a few sheets of toilet paper because I had no Kleenex with me.
The old, frail, kind man was still at the doorway slowly on his way out, engaging in small talk while a stream of people were coming in and out.

I didn't exactly go to a guitar Mass today for Thanksgiving, because there were no actual guitars there.
It was a beautiful church full of statues, paintings, and biblical stained-glass scenes, but after some delay with technical issues, the boomer priest was able to use his iPhone and Bluetooth speakers to start Mass with a John Michael Talbot song (performed by JMT himself), which came with its own guitar accompaniment and backup singers.
The priest said, "Peace be with you."
We said, "And with your spirit."
He said, "Thank you."
I always like seeing people in the front rows turning around to flash the rest of the congregation with a high-waving hippie peace sign. ✌️
My wife and I had been asked to bring up the gifts. I wasn't expecting that, so I ended up agreeing to it. But when the time came, another family was already doing it. I was relieved that there was a miscommunication among the ushers.
The pre-homily warm up was a humorous poem written about an exploding Thanksgiving turkey. The priest wanted to read it to us right before the homily, he said, "to lighten the mood."
The lady lector and lady distributor were a nice touch, too.
It was a treat to hear several more songs during Mass that sounded like I was in Catholic gift shop.
After our final blessing we were warned not to eat too much turkey.
There's nothing I can complain about, though, because all that matters is having a valid sacrament.
Right?
I was grateful for at least that, and for all the graces we do receive.

Funny you should mention prayer journals -- the few times I've journaled, it naturally turned into prayer. I'm no Saint Augustine, but it was almost like my "Confessions." I guess prayer journaling is the only kind that makes sense to me and my personality, my inclinations.

This motel trash/recycle bin looks much larger in the picture than in real life.
I had a very small Styrofoam bowl of food, and the bowl would not fit in the trash portion of this bin. I'm not sure what could be thrown away that would fit.

As I understood him, I don't think the CIA origin theory per se is his foremost concern.
He even said he likes the idea of Bitcoin.
His beef has to do with traceability and lack of privacy. That's where Bitcoin falls flat and gives rise to conspiracies.
It's why coins like Monero exist.
