Yesterday I competed at a local BJJ tournament and was able to win gold in both the +92 kg advanced category and the open class.
Waking up that day I actually felt terrible. I had about 3 hours of sleep, so my reaction time was slow and every movement felt exhausting. It was obvious that I couldn't afford a single mistake, if I ended up in a bad position I would be stuck there and not have the energy to get out.
So I employed a very conservative strategy, always prioritising my position and it paid of. Out of my 5 Matches I won 4 by submission and 1 by points and only had a total of 2 points scored against me.
I think there is a lesson to learn here that goes beyond just sports, sometimes the amount of energy you have is not as important as the way that you use it. I had other tournaments were I felt great stepping on the mat but wasted my energy dominating the first two matches, ending up exhausted for the important matches. Something to think about.
Anyway, I think I will post some full matches with some more analysis in the coming days, but here is a little highlight reel.

Thank you. Yes Spain is probably not the most bitcoin country. Long term plan is to visit Costa Rica and El Salvador. But I need to practice my spanish first. Also the flights from Germany are a lot cheaper.

I think this is funny, because it highlights the ridiculous conclusions that you come to if you only interpret data through a single lense. If you only look for CIA involvement everywhere you look you will always find some points that you can use to justify your conclusion, while ignoring any counter evidence.
Ironically the two primary Jewish schools of thought at the time of Jesu's life suffered from the same problem. The Pharisees were so focused on fulfillling their laws and the Sadducees were so focused on their temple cult and political meddling that they did not see Jesus for who he was. Even though they could witness his miracles they decided to kill him.
The law and temple cult were good things, but because they made them the sole focus of their worldview, they were unable to process data that did not fit that framework. We can learn from these mistakes and develop an awareness for the limitations of our worldview.

Now that I'm loading these zercher squats a little heavier I notice, that they are more of a hip hinge - squat combo rather than a pure squat. I'm not sure what to think of that.
I actually forgot to record a set with less weight, so just imagine this is 90 KG (198 lbs) because BTC was at 91.3 K.

It depends on what you mean by "endure".
I always look to Jesus as the guiding exsample. He endured all kinds of disrespect during his crucifiction, because he knew that this was the only way to bring about our salvation. But at other times during his ministy he had very strong reactions to disrespect. Such as when he cursed the Pharisees or drove out the merchants from the temple.
So I think if you're being disrespected you should ask yourself: Does it serve god and my neigbour, if I let the disrespect continue. Or is it an insult to god and myself as an image bearer?

Interesting, I've heard about people spliting up their sleep into shorter Intervalls to boost productivity. But they have to maintain a strict shedule to exactly catch the rem phases. Seems like you are so in tune with your body, that it found a way to self regulate your sleep. Impressive.

I know everyone is using this post to shill their favorite back pain "cure". I could do the same (it would be Jefferson curls) but since there’s already a flood of suggestions, I’ll try a different approach that might help you find your own way to deal with your back pain.
Let's think about this logically: A healthy organism will adapt to the stimulus it receives from its environment.
So, if you have back pain (or any other joint pain) that leaves two main possibilities.
Option A: You are not currently a healthy organism in this specific context. You might have received an acute injury that needs proper healing before you can adapt. Or you might have an underlying condition that needs to be addressed. In either case, your first step should be to seek out a qualified individual to help you deal with your specific issue.
Option B (this is the majority): The stimulus from your environment is leading to unhelpful adaptations. Your body is adapting, just in the wrong way. There are two classic examples:
The Desk Worker: You’re sitting 40+ hours a week. Your back muscles aren’t being challenged through their full range of motion. Your body adapts to what you do—so it “decides” maintaining robust support for your spine isn’t a priority. You don't necessarily atrophy overnight, but you lose strength, endurance, and the neurological "skill" of using those muscles well. When you finally do move, your under-prepared system is more easily stressed.
The Shelf Stocker: You’re moving your back for hours every day. Shouldn’t you be super-adapted? Not necessarily. The body adapts to specific demands. Constant, all-day bending under load is less like training and more like a repeated strain. Your body spends all its resources on recovery from the strain, with little left over for positive adaptation (like building stronger, more resilient tissue). It’s like trying to run a marathon every single day—even elite runners don’t do that, because they’d break down. Their training uses varied, managed doses.
So what does this mean if Option B applies to you? You need to change the stimulus to promote positive adaptation. For most, this means carefully introducing your back to a higher force for a short period, followed by proper recovery. This is the cycle that builds resilience.
In practice:
This is easiest in a gym. You can precisely control the weight (dose) and movement pattern (quality), progressing slowly. But the principle applies to moving any heavy object.
The goal isn't just to get "stronger" in one position, but to train controlled movement through a range of motion.
And remember, "changing your environment" also means breaking up long periods of sitting and finding ways to vary or reduce repetitive strain.
So yeah, take agency. Modify your environment and your habits to give your body a stimulus it can productively adapt to. But listen to your body—smart training is a dialogue, not a monologue.

Do you always do the WODs when you're training? Have you ever thought about periodising your training in a way where you focus more on hypertrophy and letting your joints recover after a competition? And then doing more specific CrossFit stuff as the next competition gets closer? Not saying that what you're doing is wrong, I'm just curious as someone who doesn't really know anything about CrossFit.

I've been playing around with zercher squats. I'm not sure about the depth on these. With normal squats I like to go a lot deeper, but here the bar gets in the way and I would have to shift my balance. Maybe I'll just go a little deeper next time.

Great concept for strenghtening the core. Asymetric / Rotational work is very underused in todays Gym culture. If you don't have access to kettlebells you can also do a lot of these movements with barbells or dumbells like I did here:

I Imagine it's hard to find the sweet spot. With Duolingo I have the feeling that I could just say whatever and still pass the exercise. Which is not ideal for learning, but I have the feeling that they value user retention over the actual learning effect of the lessons anyway.

Interesting exercise. I think it would work better with something like a sandbag, where the weight is distributed more towards the center. That would mean less rotational force to worry about and more focus on the actual duckunder mechanics. But I don't know If there even are sandbags heavy enough for this and the grip would also be an issue.
