A connection between Kitchener->Cambridge->Milton would make a closed loop covering a ton of commuters within Waterloo and the GTA. Add another line running Guelph->Milton->Burlington and a bunch of the big cities on the 401 could be reached by train without transit through Toronto npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: Made some nice spaghetti sauce with Italian sausage for dinner today. I normally take GO into the city since its timing is more reliable than driving but it does limit my destinations to areas around downtown mostly. npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: @nprofile…v8ql @nprofile…e5lk considering there's actual evidence of the policy leading to apparent harassment vs the literally nothing offered by MADD et al... I call BS on the pro "random" stops side. Unsafe vehicles don't need random stops. Most damage leading to unsafe operation is pretty obvious. No "random" needed. Mandatory inspections by a certified mechanic would be the better option. Look for unsafe operation. I'm seeing white powder whipping past my window right now and can hear the wind roaring. Forecast is for 20-40cm of snow and a windchill of -20C or worse. Of course it falls on/before the day I try to cycle to work. The -20C is tolerable but trying to push through powder snow is not my idea of a good time. At least at the great lakes on a calm day. You can stand there and stare into a nearly featureless void and gradually see the stars pop into view as your eyes adjust to the darkness. I'm betting the prairies, the (ant)arctic and the desert would all be good places for this too. npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: @nprofile…f4xf this post reminds me of something from one of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy books It was something like "the moment anyone comes too close to understanding how the universe works it is instantly replaced with a new one that's even more strange and inexplicable. For some reason, instead of listing stuff like EST/EDT, UTC, etc it has a gigantic list of random cities. If I remember right they're not in any particular order either. It's as bizarre as it is frustrating. npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: @nprofile…8x2j @nprofile…d23x wait, wayland KEPT that blatantly obvious fuckup around?! Desert Storm 1 and the war(s) in the Balkans went about as well as can be expected for the areas from what I can tell. Iraq 2 became a disaster pretty much immediately after the us "won" and drove Saddam's government from power. It's pretty clear that the powers that be were completely blinded by ideology and naked greed. npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: @nprofile…d23x I want to imagine a sad robot screaming into the void, its only contact being another, dumber, robot. npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: @nprofile…d23x if I'm ever forced to use an LLM in my work I suspect I'd do something like this. Have a script throw prompts at it in the background while I actively discard its outputs. npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: I came to the rec room this morning to find my laptop making a continuous disconcerting clicking sound. While it did boot and update fine after I closed a prompt on the boot screen I feel like it's about time I replaced the hard drive in that machine if I want it to continue functioning. npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: @nprofile…d23x the only way I can see generative ai images being something actually artistic is where it blurs the line with regular procgen Someone creates and trains their own model on data/images they selected with some intent, and has it create interesting outputs. In other words, they had an actual creative process instead of throwing words at a generic model made by some faceless corporation. npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: @nprofile…z4fl the only AI win I've seen so far is somewhat improved auto complete in Visual Studio on boilerplate and/or repetitive sections. Like if I type "thing.x = (foo.x + bar) * baz" it will semi-reliably predict my next line will be "thing.y = (foo.y + bar) * baz" It still makes some bizarre guesses but they don't disrupt anything since I can ignore them and keep typing. Not 100% sure if IntelliSense is using a language model for that prediction or not though. npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: Last boost is the truth Balatro has code I would call "mid" but it's an excellent game. VVVVVV had godawful code but it's another very good game. Undertale had, from what I heard, pretty bad code too. Doesn't matter though since the game was fun and has a great story. Bad code can hold you back but good code does not mean you have a good game. npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: @nprofile…k0gr he's not correct about the requirements for Earthworm Jim on PC unless he's talking about a different version from the one I played (and own.) This was the Windows 95 port released by Activision It also only needs a 486/33MHz system https://cdn.masto.host/mastodongamedevplace/media_attachments/files/114/835/991/149/657/890/original/285f36a989c62eff.jpg npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: As part of my previous snark post I decided to look up a list of FSF projects. After wading through spammed requests for donations I found * A license * GNU tools * A list of ideologically proper projects * Web hosting In their defence GNU tools does include a good number of useful programs but not one I'd consider easy, let alone fun, to work with. npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: Back when I was first exposed to FSF stuff I felt like they seemed to take more pride in making things difficult to work with in the name of ideology than in producing useful tools. Recent events have not changed the impression that was left on me more than 20 years ago now. Open source has produced some of the most successful and useful software in existence bar none. FSF has made... an ok compiler, a vaporware kernel and, their best project, cover versions of ancient Unix shell tools. npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: @nprofile…qz4x I need some instructions on how this works. The problem is that once a genre gets a couple exemplars to get the next big thing you need something so far above the established standard that people will jump over en masse. Otherwise you need to make a new (sub)genre and win with novelty. It's not "no one wants X" it's that "everyone who wants X has a really damned good X already so why bother" #gamedev npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: @nprofile…zsct memories of blackish grey crud removal npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: @nprofile…d23x @nprofile…uhwj over-designed makes me think of the direction gitlab is going Its UI was nice and functional for everything I did in it. Then they smashed the "New Issue" and "New Related Issue" links on issue pages together. Then they made New Issue a tiny modal on the issue page instead of going to a new page unless you open New Issue from the issue list for some reason. It feels like leadership is pushing change for the sake of it because otherwise they'd run out of things to do. npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: @nprofile…z4fl but I don't wanna join the colorful shellfish cult npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: @nprofile…plfp @nprofile…9ag4 One should not need to do "prompt engineering" to get useful information from an AI if it actually was fit for purpose. The pitch is "give it data, ask a question, get answer based on the data" not "give it data, ask a question, get fiction inspired by the data" Prompt engineering is a field that should not exist if AI actually works in this context. npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: @nprofile…z4fl some seem rather high in body fat, you might want to consult your dietician too 😜 npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: @nprofile…gvnm happy birthday? npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: @nprofile…z4fl oh the humanity npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: @nprofile…z4fl truth npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: @nprofile…cfuw fwiw I simplified things mostly because how/why someone is ace isn't relevant to the point I was trying to make. Bigots try to justify their hate out of paranoia of what LGBTQ people might do. The thin end of the wedge has always been about "protecting" some group from "predators." Or about "fairness" in sports. There is no such excuse for bigotry against ace folks. Hopefully at least some folks will actually wake up to how nuts the bigots are because of that. npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: Last boost: I genuinely don't understand hating people for being ace. It's like hating someone for disliking candy. They're quite literally not doing anything. This should be an indicator that the *phobes involved are literally insane but with how things are right now, who knows how it goes. npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: @nprofile…vvfe cowards npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: @nprofile…r5de @nprofile…gldz yup. I'll watch a car video or gaming video and at random half the recs are for political stuff mixing mainstream with weird extreme right wing slop. It's absurd how hard the big video sites are pushing that crap. Speaking of car channels, have you watched Garbage Time? That's a fun (mostly) car channel. Lots of chaotic fixing and abusing of old and really old cars. npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: @nprofile…v9cj @nprofile…d2rl r/angryupvote npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: @nprofile…6suf until I saw it in motion I thought this was a screenshot of an abstract bullet hell game npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: @nprofile…k0gr did they post the questions? It's possible to manipulate results by asking misleading questions. I remember getting a survey from a really crap govt rep which had a choice of answer "I want harsher sentences" or "I think crooks should have more rights than [citizens]" I wished I could've sent a punch to the gut over mail in response to that dude. He's long since been voted out thankfully. npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: @nprofile…pj45 @nprofile…vvfe but AI, presumably, still does it out of incompetence instead of malice npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: @nprofile…gvnm https://cdn.masto.host/mastodongamedevplace/media_attachments/files/114/155/797/086/957/218/original/831d197cd4b5bfb4.jpg npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: A fun short #starwars animation I stumbled on while chilling https://youtu.be/K7HTi6KgSMo npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: I made nachos #food #cooking https://cdn.masto.host/mastodongamedevplace/media_attachments/files/114/118/416/156/949/923/original/748e542cdd1db008.jpg npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: I would be less filled with irritation if Cypress didn't have that obnoxious bug where it fails to purge whatever garbage it's retaining in its dev environment when a test run is restarted. Geostationary orbit which IIRC is where GPS lives is about 35000km away. That means any satellite internet using geostationary sats has a minimum lag of 233ms if my math is right Not so bad for email or videos but problematic for things like zoom, gaming and such EDIT it's in MEO not GEO so less lag but more than what starlink is offering npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: @npub1mc3…nkdg that's because you were supposed to FOLLOW the train CJ! npub1q3s57td42nykm5fgr3598mvr0zdqyc72und4raj6me8gjv398gxqx44fpv Bee O'Problem :godot: @npub18p2…6j6h Not exactly a new phenomenon either. A high school acquaintance ended up in prison for an unprovoked murder. It's really hard to reconcile the person you remember with the fucked up stuff they got in trouble for. I'd love to say it gets better but it hasn't really for me.
