Last Notes npub1xng2vrsfayuv4p7az3rzj3vxwrc7xwjaqyagjkd6lxq4c9w6gn0ssjaxdd Gatherer Wow… 50 countries worldwide have a higher life expectancy than the US. npub1xng2vrsfayuv4p7az3rzj3vxwrc7xwjaqyagjkd6lxq4c9w6gn0ssjaxdd Gatherer It was only 20 years ago that we barely understood the importance of a biological function as basic as sleep. We still don’t know why such an extended and vulnerable state of being is necessary to our evolution. Dolphins can go a month without sleep after giving birth, or sleep with only one half of their brain at a time (unihemispheric sleep). Meanwhile plants follow circadian rhythm. We do know that sleep evolved before brains did, a primordial remnant of when all living things synchronized rest with the day-night cycle? Maybe that cycle could also be part of the reason why brains evolved. So that animals could be able ignore sleep and decide for themselves when they are clear of predators and can rest. npub1xng2vrsfayuv4p7az3rzj3vxwrc7xwjaqyagjkd6lxq4c9w6gn0ssjaxdd Gatherer One thing I think people maybe don’t take advantage of enough and it’s because we don’t grasp the power of it is that we have access to an immense amount of information online to educate us on things like nutrition, physical fitness, the importance of sleep, circadian rhythm, and so on. AI makes that information easier to access. I wanted to follow this peanut dressing recipe but I didn’t have the exact ingredients so instead of asking a generic AI, I “made” a Nutritionist AI with expertise in the culinary arts as a Gem. I knew following an AI recipe was risky but the dressing turned out great so then I started to talk to it about meal planning to achieve the macros I want while still only eating 3 meals a day so I can consume the scientifically correct and balanced amounts of fiber, protein etc for muscle gain and overall health. I was never going to do the math myself and figure out how to eat healthy but the AI is a lot better at this when you have it make giant spreadsheets and force it to verify that the information as well as the sums and totals are accurate. I remember all the memes of AI giving people recipes that were nonsensical just a year or so ago. That’s why I know I have to remain hyper vigilant and constantly push back on the AI, forcing it to question its assumptions. I know that interacting with the AI I am also training it. “Google uses conversations, feedback, and uploaded data to train and improve its machine-learning models.” I just think democratizing nutrition and health information is worth it. I wish I knew in my teens what I know now about food, cooking and nutrition over a decade later. We shouldn’t ever take what the AI says as medical advice or quality (of food) advice but if we keep pushing the limits maybe one day the AI will get much better and that could change. In theory it would be so valuable if everyone could get that kind of information for the cost of building and running some data centers. npub1xng2vrsfayuv4p7az3rzj3vxwrc7xwjaqyagjkd6lxq4c9w6gn0ssjaxdd Gatherer I don’t know the best time to buy Bitcoin but I know it’s priced low if you are buying it with silver or gold right now. npub1xng2vrsfayuv4p7az3rzj3vxwrc7xwjaqyagjkd6lxq4c9w6gn0ssjaxdd Gatherer Bitchat is a decentralized, peer-to-peer messaging app launched by Jack Dorsey in July 2025. It is designed to work without the internet, cellular service, or accounts. How it Works • Offline Mesh: Uses Bluetooth to send messages directly from phone to phone. Messages "hop" across nearby devices to extend range. • Nostr Integration: Uses the Nostr protocol as a fallback for global messaging when internet is available. • No Identity: No phone numbers or emails required; users are anonymous by default. • Resilience: Built for communication during internet blackouts, protests, or natural disasters. • Payments: Supports offline Bitcoin/Lightning payments via Cashu e-cash tokens. npub1xng2vrsfayuv4p7az3rzj3vxwrc7xwjaqyagjkd6lxq4c9w6gn0ssjaxdd Gatherer To put what’s happening in Iran in context, their currency has been devalued by 97% since 2018. That would bring any country to its knees. That’s the power of the US led sanctions. npub1xng2vrsfayuv4p7az3rzj3vxwrc7xwjaqyagjkd6lxq4c9w6gn0ssjaxdd Gatherer They just announced a massive number of layoffs, 13,000 jobs. I can’t help but think there is a connection. #nevent1q…t6gz npub1xng2vrsfayuv4p7az3rzj3vxwrc7xwjaqyagjkd6lxq4c9w6gn0ssjaxdd Gatherer We agree this is bad: Both bitcoiners who are “End the Fed” and people like myself who idealistically want the Fed ended and our monetary system completely upended and remade to “fix” the dollar by having the dollar backed by real economic productivity. npub1xng2vrsfayuv4p7az3rzj3vxwrc7xwjaqyagjkd6lxq4c9w6gn0ssjaxdd Gatherer Also the comparison is flawed because usually the nicest stuff lasts longer and serves as a distorted reference point. npub1xng2vrsfayuv4p7az3rzj3vxwrc7xwjaqyagjkd6lxq4c9w6gn0ssjaxdd Gatherer It’s not a function of money as much as the fact that post industrialization people live busier lives now and want spaces that calm them or are more functional. When people live calmer lives they have a lot more time to dedicate to ornamentation. npub1xng2vrsfayuv4p7az3rzj3vxwrc7xwjaqyagjkd6lxq4c9w6gn0ssjaxdd Gatherer If they are physically capable of performing any minor surgery with slightly better precision, accuracy and speed than any human surgeon in 4 years, that’s probably an easy box to check. Yet, there will also be specialized non humanoid robots purpose built for surgery. For humanoid robots to be worth it, they will have to fit into the existing medical profession in a very seamless way and offer far more versatility than the specialized surgeon robots. If a surgeon has to stand next to the humanoid robot and babysit it in case it malfunctions during a surgery, then the surgeon will think they are better off doing it themselves. I think that slow adoption phase where the robots build trust and surgeons in the operating room adapt to working with them will take much longer. npub1xng2vrsfayuv4p7az3rzj3vxwrc7xwjaqyagjkd6lxq4c9w6gn0ssjaxdd Gatherer Hey npub1xng2vrsfayuv4p7az3rzj3vxwrc7xwjaqyagjkd6lxq4c9w6gn0ssjaxdd Gatherer Thanks! npub1xng2vrsfayuv4p7az3rzj3vxwrc7xwjaqyagjkd6lxq4c9w6gn0ssjaxdd Gatherer Thank you, how kind. npub1xng2vrsfayuv4p7az3rzj3vxwrc7xwjaqyagjkd6lxq4c9w6gn0ssjaxdd Gatherer Thanks! npub1xng2vrsfayuv4p7az3rzj3vxwrc7xwjaqyagjkd6lxq4c9w6gn0ssjaxdd Gatherer yea I just figured it out, thanks. npub1xng2vrsfayuv4p7az3rzj3vxwrc7xwjaqyagjkd6lxq4c9w6gn0ssjaxdd Gatherer I know that Bluesky had a core user base that kept the site alive and it became the go-to alternative when there were big changes made to Xitter such as when it was temporarily banned in Brazil. It also benefited from being the default social media alternative not owned by billionaires which is why many chose it over threads. Many people value moderation and being able to quickly subscribe to block lists made curation easy from the beginning. It created a bunch of silos which people had control over. Mastodon’s interface of different timelines was way clunkier than curated block lists and feeds. People don’t even know about Nostr so you have to get into cultural conversation somehow. npub1xng2vrsfayuv4p7az3rzj3vxwrc7xwjaqyagjkd6lxq4c9w6gn0ssjaxdd Gatherer I think it’s a good idea if there are zaps worth 0 sats to replace it because no one likes the idea of pressing “like” on a post that has really bad news for example. Likes are a mechanism to increase post visibility and it seems overly complex to have two different forms of the same thing. Another approach is I think if you are giving someone $ then you are proving you like the post so maybe the icons should be switched and then the total for both would be counted as zaps. npub1xng2vrsfayuv4p7az3rzj3vxwrc7xwjaqyagjkd6lxq4c9w6gn0ssjaxdd Gatherer Thank you! npub1xng2vrsfayuv4p7az3rzj3vxwrc7xwjaqyagjkd6lxq4c9w6gn0ssjaxdd Gatherer May I ask why? npub1xng2vrsfayuv4p7az3rzj3vxwrc7xwjaqyagjkd6lxq4c9w6gn0ssjaxdd Gatherer Hi I’m just here to explore. #introductions
