If you must be at a computer for work, getting a standing desk with a walking pad underneath is one of the best things you can do for yourself.
Walking is good for your body and good for your mind. Obviously walking barefoot outside is ideal, and you should still take breaks to do this and reset your eyes, but the standing desk/walking pad combo is a game changer.
You get used to typing while walking pretty quickly, but be careful at first so you don’t eat shit. During meetings it’s great to keep you engaged and help you think.
Plus, if your name is Walker, whenever someone in a meeting asks “are you walking?” you get to say “well, I am a Walker, after all” every single time. Everyone loves a good dad joke.

I’m not calling the discussion of what Bitcoin is a weird obsession. I’m referring to the fact that some knots folks seem weirdly obsessed with me. I’m flattered, but I don’t understand why, because I’ve repeatedly said everyone should 1) run whatever node implementation they want 2) I personally do NOT update my node upon each new release and you should not either, and 3) I think that fees price out spam. But apparently these statements are blasphemy and make me a bad actor, even though Jimmy holds the same opinions.
Regarding your insinuation that my blasphemous views have anything to do with my sponsors, they don’t. I only got sponsored by Blockstream recently (haven’t even been paid by them yet). My opinions on whether we need to take drastic action to prevent spam on bitcoin haven’t changed. They’re the same as they were when BitBox sponsored me. Does that mean I only held those opinions because BitBox was my sponsor? Of course not. But hey, if it fits your narrative that I’m a bad actor then tell yourself whatever you want.
Your analogy is flawed. It’s not “like saying fines & penalties stop real world graffiti”… it’s like saying “if you want to create graffiti, you must pay a fee in advance to do so. The space available for graffiti is finite and you compete with everyone else in the world to pay for space. The more people who want to spray graffiti, the higher the fee is. When the cost to spray graffiti gets too high, you stop spraying graffiti, because your graffiti is worthless and you’re wasting increasing amounts of money to create it.”

I did Mistborn first and now doing Stormlight, but haven’t done warbreaker yet. I do not have spare time but I try to make it when I can. Honestly, I went away from fiction for a while after reading fiction my entire childhood and early adulthood… then there was a period of a few years, especially when I got into bitcoin, where I felt like I needed to only read non-fiction (Austrian economics, philosophy, etc) because I felt somehow reading fiction would be a waste of time… but then I started getting back into fiction again, and I remembered that fiction is actually the greatest teacher. The stories that make you feel make you think.

1. Mistborn (which led me into the entire Cosmere). Brandon Sanderson created such an incredible universe. The Mistborn trilogy is fucking great. The Stormlight Archive is also fucking great (only partway through right now). You should read Brandon Sanderson. (Note: I read the physical books, not audiobook)
2. Dungeon Crawler Carl. In this case, Lyn recommended the audiobook, so that’s what I did. Holy fucking fuck… first of all, the author, Matt Dinniman, is a genius. The writing is excellent. The story is captivating. The characters are both deep and hilarious. Second, the narrator, Jeff Hays, it’s literally a voice god… It’s so fuckity fucking good. I’m on the fourth book in the series already. Every single one is truly outstanding.
Anyway, the point is that if Lyn recommends you check out a book, you should fucking do it.

Basically he does *not* think BIP 110 (or the urgency around it) is necessary, but he also thinks it’s better to have some fork drama now versus a few years from now. That way we can better understand the mechanics of how a USAF would actually work if nodes starting actively rejecting blocks, instead of just threatening to do so. I also appreciate Jimmy’s position that fees ultimately price out spam. I’ve always found Jimmy to be a very reasonable person and first-principles thinker. Plus he’s more respectful in his discourse than 99% of us in this space (myself included).
