On Wednesday, January 28, SNCF begins the sale for tickets with travel dates from March 30 to July 3. If you want to grab some cheap tickets, you might want to take a peek. 🚂 #trainstr npub1evyxcs3l48qufa48pj4xeucwzxm9j2fzfvjk6mker5ezseerj75sjxfv4u Trainstr For some reason, the quoted post for the route can't be seen in Amethyst, only in Primal, so here's a copy/paste. As I mentioned in my introduction yesterday, the Menton Lemon Festival (Fête du Citron) takes place on the French Riviera from February 14 to March 1. I will present the trip with Vienna as the starting point, tho I can offer alternative routes if you are interested. We travel as a family of two adults and one child but I will show the price for a single adult too. The sample journey starts on February 11, travelling by ÖBB (Austrian railway), and the first step is getting to Venice. This leg is a little long for travelling with kids, but the hours are comfortable, since it begins at 08:53 and the arrival time in Venetia Mestre is 15:56, after 7h3m. If it's too long, you can split it into two parts, and I wholeheartedly recommend spending a day in Graz, which might be my favourite city in Austria. The price for this leg is €31,30 for an adult, with seat reservation included, or €62,60 for the whole family, in my case. It's also the same price for travelling with two kids, btw. The train has one more stop in Venetia Santa Lucia if it's more to your taste. This route passes through the Semmering Railway in the mountains, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. No matter what you're looking for, this route offers a lot of value for the price. The next day, we'll travel from Venetia Mestre to Ventimiglia, at the French border, with a stop in Milano Centrale. The first leg begins at 7:30 and we'll arrive at 9:45 in the beautiful Milano Centrale, after 2h15m with Frecciarossa, the Italian top train, so to speak. You can find anything you need in the building, even the coffee vending machines have a great espresso for €1,50. After a break of 1h25m, at 11:10, you'll begin a 3h44m journey, and arrive in Ventimiglia at 14:54, with a very nice InterCity train, that travels by the beautiful Italian Riviera. This journey costs €89,20 per family, or €41,80 for a single adult. The seats are assigned automatically but you can pay a little extra if you want specific places. We always received table seats without paying extra, but it might be different if you travel single. Trenitalia (Italian Railways) has very attractive pricing for families, but it usually needs booking at least two or three weeks in advance. For Trenitalia, you can buy vouchers with Sats from Bitrefill. From Ventimiglia, there are minimum two trains every hour, with the French TER, and it takes around 18 minutes for €5 (single or as a family, same price). No seats assigned, you sit wherever you want. The total for trains, one way, is €109,40 for an adult, or €156,80 for a family. With the same TER train, you can have day trips to Cannes, Antibes, Nice, Grasse, and Monte Carlo. I also recommend a few hours back in Ventimiglia, where the farmers' market (very close to the train station) is excellent for a visit. For the French trains it's better to have the SNCF app because, besides convenience, it offers reduced prices as a group, which doesn't happen with the (hard to use) ticketing machine. npub1evyxcs3l48qufa48pj4xeucwzxm9j2fzfvjk6mker5ezseerj75sjxfv4u Trainstr How can you get there: (If you need a personalised route, let me know) #nevent1q…p2gp npub1evyxcs3l48qufa48pj4xeucwzxm9j2fzfvjk6mker5ezseerj75sjxfv4u Trainstr From the farmers' market (Marché Provençal) https://nostr.download/c159449a1b0358ff259f2db0a7db7af4d93c44fbcc0a6431dae2a1b5d4764227.jpg https://nostr.download/aa368a8eeec919b34cfad25e98c2905bb48f77dc0b9f121cd08b4007d77da7c5.jpg https://nostr.download/f626ad1c0ab41894863df3ff0812b61c844b621eeac490389575bad5eefffa33.jpg https://nostr.download/2cb8d7340a22be571d47cd68e3321ce9de26d3ee402d35d6546c3bf5d7dfef9a.jpg https://nostr.download/3bbb5978583ae357e3cfffade1b73e186fdaf926603d81fa4be2f4c9caac462d.jpg https://nostr.download/3c2fd3321a543d3bd888bc1b14c20728541c2f806932d2ab6d9b31985a4769d2.jpg https://nostr.download/274b866a45a16d721baa465d47f1a11ca99379e41a214ea4cd3dceb4dd0bae69.jpg https://nostr.download/00d498d787d365298cefafcd0c513cfd1a6af7ab7b3b6213e05a5499dbcd15fd.jpg https://nostr.download/d8e09bc6736036fd2da07303f1e10ab23b7a9645ddd0f927b7de673caba802db.jpg https://nostr.download/195b5a297cf6a3b52802e5bf390b1e71d2052481aa2561daba7ae309b146b7d3.jpg npub1evyxcs3l48qufa48pj4xeucwzxm9j2fzfvjk6mker5ezseerj75sjxfv4u Trainstr From the Christmas Market https://nostr.download/2e6705cb50c23238597da5fcea14231c5a4e043c64eb585eed6e94420ea549c5.jpg https://nostr.download/033b4493aab80f66f553e74898a88845f71e376329ed05dbbdf64c4753f9e3e2.jpg https://nostr.download/5ce977780c033d843c83873f826870f87d5cb759f41659388185576dd5db6eb6.jpg https://nostr.download/42356a81f9529db7668134206142c5eb6a8a6f1f726502470a4117323792cdc8.jpg https://nostr.download/ed1c64b8adcb914f9bd36d64f19fcdf6c2b127dc3d237b37d20229e8c33e0d87.jpg https://nostr.download/c770da6356a9ba40e980a5817431b3224857d9a96d156917d69a79fe40fe3545.jpg https://nostr.download/8897602951e24b720dbc4b318bef49fa9a6571c636b237cef44ef89f061f79e6.jpg https://nostr.download/e52b0823c9749382d373ea6118bc1d22376383e511b8b4a385b9071da0adf245.jpg https://nostr.download/4b38383d8408817ad628515df6b9d8bc210f486c8e58e9706637c87afb5453eb.jpg https://nostr.download/52324166aa204bd5459c63943a2089d3a67a8e80c2ac2685be0441ee9222e71c.jpg npub1evyxcs3l48qufa48pj4xeucwzxm9j2fzfvjk6mker5ezseerj75sjxfv4u Trainstr More: https://nostr.download/0b6fde3029dcb5c373bd09ed2440c16d951d2f75aff70ee0de0ad2c52885d443.jpg https://nostr.download/3d379eb1ed336f26e96c8dab76073210f260193c9545522874970e59e34ce04d.jpg https://nostr.download/ab171c84becae3cea76acfe88201f7a9c6ec984d2a9b1bd57a4aea7dd46f60cf.jpg https://nostr.download/685d414690d277ae314ad256a39be6e77d80c8423099c32f557a23455dd08b95.jpg https://nostr.download/ace185474ab147a0f6e621af7feb6557e28ae3d5d8a5a838deaedf5f3bd320e2.jpg https://nostr.download/43a14ae140b157b97857d4061f138cd8773249fd4369108000a8d8f7b5c60800.jpg https://nostr.download/2450408a439489e747627efacc226148a37a696413820020a1aa788c549afa44.jpg https://nostr.download/3252f64771df167c667b837300a402ee0ca68fd5ff6d06cd4bb83578f8033374.jpg https://nostr.download/b004dcb72dcb73c77195c27283c29527bd8d30b61a7493e1125331162732d959.jpg https://nostr.download/d17163813e653ccbd32b6329adbf816019352b6739235337c8e486884459e44a.jpg npub1evyxcs3l48qufa48pj4xeucwzxm9j2fzfvjk6mker5ezseerj75sjxfv4u Trainstr As I said yesterday, today I bring you Antibes as a travel destination, through pictures. Diesel is cheaper and easier because it doesn't require electrical power plants, substations, and so on, which adds quite a bit to the initial investment. Electrical is suitable when you build between populated areas, because anything can go wrong at any time and you don't need the specialists to be 1000 km away. Two diesel engines, "just in case", and that's it. The Indian Pacific takes 65 hours, but it's also a big ass train with 35 carriages (guest carriages, crew quarters, restaurants, lounges and power vans), besides the 2 engines, and it weighs on average 1710 tonnes, with a length of 878 m. It has an average speed of 85 km/h (max 115), but that can be worked on. While the average speed for diesel is roughly between 80 and 125 km/h, it can easily reach 200. In the end, they'll have to make a compromise, because higher speeds require way more expensive lines, maintenance, etc. Maybe hydrogen could represent a viable option, but the lines and their price will be the biggest issue because there are different standards for different speeds, including what's under them (bringing specific rocks in the middle of nowhere from who knows where can be a price multiplier), not to mention single or double line. But for the cheapest and most reasonable way, I'd say that Australia is the best example. Also, take into account that I'm no specialist, I just like to travel by train. npub1evyxcs3l48qufa48pj4xeucwzxm9j2fzfvjk6mker5ezseerj75sjxfv4u Trainstr Also, from January 15 to January 25, there's the Lights Festival of Lucerne (LILU). https://image.nostr.build/f4dfd7fbf34083d7147828954ea25231d7f3623a7441c454809137a6bbd07506.jpg https://image.nostr.build/42c7d848dd96daf037d970c0156fbdb128caea7f3339ce4a58c0811fd13cbee9.jpg https://image.nostr.build/7d695a0d2f821c48f3247563963224fcdfe093a4e03f75c6e4e44754a075dffc.jpg https://image.nostr.build/7e6dae584bb2b82d9a3d8f047f8601ba7cc919d020d71a70f3fea07c80776e3c.jpg https://image.nostr.build/657a4f0f3258b67727e9cd447a203238c01e5b1f6b0bf139ef219cb3d5bb51b0.jpg https://image.nostr.build/9849d054a34f3f73956610f173dfe746baafb6dda1cb34a2d7347b58eefb651a.jpg https://image.nostr.build/405278a8c0cf673b5a621f4d9ebf2850719c5038046fe2adf3e0dbec2e9a0614.jpg #nevent1q…9a2q npub1evyxcs3l48qufa48pj4xeucwzxm9j2fzfvjk6mker5ezseerj75sjxfv4u Trainstr I saw this video and realised that the Carnival season is getting close so here's a list of events for Switzerland, in case you're looking for a reason to travel. https://video.nostr.build/1a939e6cff622403b3426aa7a6f8b35d3634b96b43b948aa1582c57e9083072d.mp4 Basel 23.02-25.02 Bellinzona 12.02-17.02 Bern 19.02-21.02 Biel 19.02-22.02 Chur 13.02-17.02 Fribourg 13.02-17.02 Lucerne 12.02-17.02 Murten 06.03-09.03 Payerne 20.02-23.02 Solothurn 12.02-18.02 Sion 12.02-15.02 Thun 29.01-01.02 npub1evyxcs3l48qufa48pj4xeucwzxm9j2fzfvjk6mker5ezseerj75sjxfv4u Trainstr You have to forgive me for posting ads, even unpaid ones, but the Rhätischen Bahn/Railway deserves it.
