In the umbrel scenario there are a load of projects that would be impacted by autopopulating funding sources. I would say Umbrel is responsible for not creating backdoor. As I said we can also add safeguards fkr that scenario.

As far as I can gather the issue was autopopulating the funding source for lnbits by alby, and Francis enabling lnbits but not setting up from lnbits launch page? We didn't autopopulate the funding source, alby did. We can add an extra safeguard to help albys flow, by disabling the setup page after x mins, but using lnbits this way by a service like alby, is not something we do or account for. I'm not playing the blame game, but its a vulnerability not created by us. We can try safeguarding it, but any service that alby autopopulates should be monitored by alby and disabled if not set up correctly.

We are lucky coming from bitcoin, and understanding pitfalls of something that seemingly makes sense, such as a "foundation". I don't think there has ever been an open protocol that became hardened against centralising forces more than bitcoin. It's a unique experience that equips us well for building something like nostr.

It kinda comes from this. Having the stripe payments in the pos is useful as you can do things like sell bits to customers. That went through fine, however when someone bought "buy bitcoin" stamps from the webshop, stripe blacklisted us 🤣. Was first time I had to deal with "permissioned" system for a while, and it felt so odd. First time I zoomed out and look at just how backward flatland is for years. Thank God I live in bitcoinland where things make sense.

It’s so odd that for most jobs, you’re required to have a bank account so your employer can pay your hard-earned money into it, and then, by the bank’s good grace, you’re allowed to access the money you actually earned. While the private bank recklessly mismanages your money and surveils your spending. A weird and recent arrangement dressed up as normal and inevitable.

I met an actual Guru once at a party, was just chatting, and he suddebly did some weird Chakra shit out of nowhere. Felt all aligned and focused afterward, still do, was very odd. I used to think all that was mostly nonsense, but there is certainly something to it. Whole experience lasted less than a few minutes.

I had a flooded soakaway last week, that required days of digging through slimey stinky mud in the rain, but listening to 100s of Empire podcast I had a great old time.

The real risk is losing your phone or it being compromised by being a multiuse device. The signer keeps your nsec safe and sound from an internet connection you trust, and only does one thing so attack vector is 100x limited.

Its trying to get noncustodial upside on a custodial solution. Better to work on noncustodial scaling.
The whole point of bitcoin is no trusted third party.
There is a place for ecash on bitcoin, but it's in cypherpunk utopia where regulators don't care about private money issuance and privacy, until then it's leaving money on a darkmarket, where rugpull incentive just builds. By that point we will have easy/cheap transactions with no ttp.

Because people starting to realise ecash on bitcoin is a beautiful castle built on the sand of very shaky assumptions.
Much of the energy/resources would have been better allocated elsewhere.
Any effort to point this out was attacked, at times because of the monetary interests at play grants etc. Those who have expressed honest criticism, or even just indifference publicly @jb55, have felt sidelined as naysayers by industry as a whole, which should not happen. There have been few underhanded attacks from cashu camp against projects that invalidate ecash use case. I can see why some animosity has built, and public indifference flipped to open criticism.
If someone has nothing to gain by critising something, yet a lot to lose, it's an honest opinion that should be listened to.
