As we've noted previously, Immigration and Customs Enforcement isn't properly vetting ICE applicants. And in one case, a recruit had previously been charged with strong-arm robbery and battery. Others failed drug tests, and some have criminal backgrounds. Congrats, Ms. Jedeed, you have a job with ICE! Except, she writes, "The plan was never to become an ICE agent." "The catch, however, is that there’s only one “Laura Jedeed” with an internet presence, and it takes about five seconds of Googling to figure out how I feel about ICE, the Trump administration, and the country’s general right-wing project," she reports on Slate. Trump described the affordability crisis as a hoax because he said since he saved the country there is no affordability crisis. It is a lie told by the Democratic party. Trump never mentioned President Biden. Trump ran in 2024, on fixing the US economy on day one, so this is his economy. Trump's poll numbers on almost every issue, but especially on the economy are in the toilet. Johnson's remarks are a defense of Trump's ineptitude. Rollins made an appearance on this Wednesday's NewsNation Now with Connell Mcshane and was asked about the embarrassing atrocity at the White House where Grandpa sundowner was falling asleep during his signing ceremony for the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act in the Oval Office, and whether their new guidelines are going to mean Americans will be spending more for food, and Rollins made this ridiculous assertion about how much money people need to be able to feed their families. MCSHANE: Where the emphasis changed a bit of the new pyramid, there was really a lot of talk. We had that event recently, proteins, dairy, healthy fats. That's why I asked about the quote unquote good fat there a moment ago. So that gives you an idea of where the administration's going. How does cost play into this? And I guess the reason I ask is I'm thinking back to the CPI report that just came out and, you know, although inflation overall, as you know, can help steady 2.7% of the annual rate on the consumer level, but we did see groceries, especially month to month, jumping up. Via Al Jazeera, here's the official version of what happened: In an X post on Wednesday, the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) wrote that at 6:50pm (00:50 GMT on Thursday), federal law enforcement officers were stopping “an illegal alien from Venezuela who was released into the country by [former President] Joe Biden in 2022”. The DHS added that the man had tried to evade the officers, crashing his car into another parked car and then fleeing on foot. It said one of the officers caught up with the immigrant on foot “when the subject began to resist and violently assault the officer.” The department’s post said that while the immigrant and the officer were struggling on the ground, two people came out of a nearby apartment and began to strike the officer with a snow shovel and a broomstick. It further said, “The original subject got loose and began striking the officer with a shovel or broom stick.” “Fearing for his life and safety as he was being ambushed by three individuals, the officer fired a defensive shot to defend his life. Many people have trouble believing this. As someone who used to know a lot of cops, I know that running to the ER and claiming an injury related to a "bad" shooting was pretty damned common. Via Bari Weiss News: The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent who fatally shot Renee Good last week in Minneapolis, Jonathan Ross, suffered internal bleeding to the torso following the incident, according to two U.S. officials briefed on his medical condition. It was unclear how extensive the bleeding was. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed Ross' injury, but has not yet responded to CBS News' requests for more information. There were reports on social media that Ross was loading boxes into a moving truck a few hours after he killed Renee Good but other reports said there were several men loading the truck. An unidentified neighbor said she saw people packing boxes at Ross’ home Friday morning. “What I did see was three trucks and people moving boxes out of there. I texted one of my friends right away,” she said. “I mean, they were really hustling when I was down there.”read more

When asked why he made the long drive, Fenner said that he was responding to a call for help: So I'm out here right now because this business put out a call for people to stand on this corner to watch the business for them. They've been really worried about reopening. They were shut down for the past five days after ICE was here, and they just aren't comfortable just doing this on their own. Fenner and the reporter also talked about the gear that Fenner had with him, including a camera, a GoPro camera acting like a bodycam, a whistle, and a first aid kit. Then Fenner added this: Yeah. I have family in this community, so I was really worried about them. They shared their concerns, and they have a young son. They're not able to do this work. They're not able to stand here and watch over the neighborhood. So I'm here for them, for this community. This is what they need. Steve Cohen from Tennessee took over Jim Jordan's ridiculous House Judiciary Committee Hearing On 'Deporting Fraudsters Act,' to demand proper investigations of the "unjustified homicide" of Renee Good at the hands of ICE officer Jonathan Ross. Rep. Cohen explained that ICE agents have no authority to harass motorists since it had nothing to do with an ICE operation. COHEN: And it's my understanding from reading the laws and being briefed on by some that the ICE agents have authority only when they have a warrant for somebody's arrest or a reason. Reasonable cause, probable cause that somebody is in the country and illegally in the country because of immigration problems. But they have no law enforcement authority whatsoever unless they've been deputized by the governor, and they had no right to try to control traffic because this did not involve an ice operation that was being deterred in any way. When that officer came up to the car and reached in and grabbed inside and said, Open up your car door. Get out of your car. He had no right to do it. Good was obviously trying to leave the scene frightened by ICE's aggressive actions. Why would she get out of her car? I'd fear for my life if I was harassed by ICE agents. Driving away would be the proper response to that situation. It would diffuse it. No one would have thought another ICE agent would shoot her in the face. read more

The last segment on a jam-packed The Daily Show, Jon Stewart launched into the unconscionable response by Trump and his minions over ICE's killing of Renee Good. Stewart played the response from Trump describing insurrectionists on January 6th, as proud and loyal Americans he loves, during the attack on the US Capitol, to the murder of Renee Good. After playing the lying and insane responses capped off by Megyn Kelly saying, "She brought it on herself," Jon Stewart responded, "Motherf**k*ers." In America today, Donald Trump is the sun, and if you revolve around him and worship him, his warmth shines upon you. You could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and not lose his support, as long as it's done on his behalf. But if you do not support him, if you live in the darkness of what I guess we will refer to from now on as blue states, fearing the day he turns his terrible wrath towards you, whether you're a single human woman on a side street somewhere in Minneapolis, or a sovereign nation that happens to have land and resources that we, a larger sovereign nation, think we also might want. And so his people are making a bet that adhering to a principle of forced compliance and coercion will give us a more stable and prosperous America than a principle of shared alliance and common interest. Robert McBride, a prosecutor assigned to assist illegally appointed U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan, has reportedly been fired after refusing to participate in the prosecution of former FBI Director James Comey. On Monday, MS Now reported that McBride, 64, had been dismissed from his role as the No. 2 official in the U.S. Attorney's office for the Eastern District of Virginia. McBribe was appointed to the position last year after a federal judge ruled that President Donald Trump had illegally appointed Halligan as a U.S. Attorney. According to MS NOW, McBride told people that he felt it would be difficult for him to take on the Comey prosecution while running the Virginia office. The report also said that Halligan discovered that McBride met with federal judges in the Eastern District of Virginia, which she viewed as undermining Trump's administration. Two top aides to Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer were reportedly put on leave after a complaint said that they helped their boss carry out an affair with a subordinate staffer. On Monday, Bloomberg reported that Chief of Staff Jihun Han and Deputy Chief of Staff Rebecca Wright were told not to report to work. At the same time, the Labor Department inspector general was investigating the affair. The New York Post revealed last week that Chavez-DeRemer, 57, had been accused of meeting with the staffer three times after dismissing her security detail. The secretary allegedly ordered Han and Wright to "make up" official trips to meet with her romantic partner. The secretary was observed on video behaving inappropriately with her alleged lover during at least two trips to Las Vegas. Former AOC comms director Corbin Trent basically hijacked a segment that was supposed to be devoted for bashing Democrats and turned it on its head, much to the dismay of Fox News Live host Rick Edson. I'll say it again that I'm not thrilled with Democrats going on Fox in the first place, but this was pretty hilarious. Edson couldn't end the segment fast enough as soon as Corbin started going after JD Vance for his comments following the shooting of Renee Good in Minnesota last week. Here's the end of what was actually a very long segment where the other guest, Matt Terrill, who was a former chief of staff for Marco Rubio, basically sounded like he had "pro-Hamas" Tourette syndrome as he bashed Democrats and newly elected NY Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who apparently lives rent-free in all of their heads on Fox since there's not a day that goes by without them attacking him. TERRILL: Well, the other panelist just said that it's easy to condemn Hamas. You the bottom line is if it's so easy, why didn't Mamdani do it on the campaign trail on this very network in an interview with Martha McCallum? The bottom line is for the Democrat Party right now, they have a base of supporters that are going further left. Rep Drunken Van Orden voted for the OBBB, knowing damn well that it meant that thousands of Wisconsinites, including his constituents, would lose their health care subsidies. But he did a complete reversal last week and was one of the few Republicans to vote for extending the ACA subsidies. Since then, he's been busy backpedaling from his vote and trying to convince everyone he's still Trump's Little Bitch. We need to have readily available, high-quality, actual affordable health care for all Americans. And cutting off these subsidies that were voted for 100% Democratic votes. Let's not forget that. That was a cliff. What we need is a glide path to get to the place where Americans don't have to wring their hands if they get sick. So, to me, it was a bridge too far. We would have had about 60,000 Wisconsinites lose their health care insurance, including thousands of my constituents. So, I didn't vote with Democrats. I voted for the residents of the third congressional state of our third congressional district of Wisconsin and the state of Wisconsin. That's my job. My title is representative. And when I was a Navy SEAL, Jake, I did things all lawful, mind you, but I did a lot of stuff that I was really uncomfortable with. But I knew it had to be done because otherwise the mission would fail. On this day in 1972 the Fantasy/Horror TV movie, The Night Stalker, debuted on broadcast television, creating a phenomenon that would endure through a follow-up film and a spin-off TV series. Directed by John Llewellyn Moxey, the film starred Darren McGavin as the signature reporter chasing after monsters and supernatural critters, finding them, defeating them, and then having his findings quashed by cops, politicians, corporations and other establishment types. The Night Stalker set a record for the most viewed made-for-TV film. It was followed by a sequel, The Night Strangler, and a television series, Kolchak: The Night Stalker, both of which had McGavin reprising his role as Carl Kolchak. Chris Carter cited Kolchak as a direct predecessor for The X-Files, and used it's tone and structure as a blueprint for his own show. The recurring X-Files character "Senator Richard Matheson" was a tribute to the writer of "Kolchak: The Night Stalker", Richard Matheson. If you are despairing over the lawlessness and violence of the Trump administration, here is some news to make you feel better about the power of the people. On Wednesday, after months of public protests and outcry, Avelo Airlines announced it will stop providing deportation flights for ICE. Avelo spokesperson Courtney Goff told The Washington Post the ICE flights “provided short-term benefits but ultimately did not deliver enough consistent and predictable revenue to overcome its operational complexity and costs.” Translation: the money was not worth the headache and the hit to Avelo’s reputation. Goff also told The Post that protests and “’widespread misinformation’ about the airline did not affect the carrier’s popularity or passenger loads.” That’s a far cry from saying that protests had nothing to do with the decision. It was only a matter of time before something happened after the Trump administration launched what officials described as the largest federal immigration enforcement operation ever, deploying as many as 2,000 federal agents and officers to the Minneapolis area. Democratic cities are under attack from the president. And now, following the murder of Renee Nicole Good on Wednesday by an ICE agent, the Trump administration is deploying more than 100 U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents and officers to Minnesota from operations in Chicago and New Orleans, The New York Times reports. The person is dead, according to a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security. Video of the incident shared with the Reformer shows masked ICE officers approach a Honda Pilot stopped in the middle of Portland Avenue near 34th Street. One officer tells the driver to “get out of the f*cking car” and tries to open the door. The driver then slowly backs up and then pulls forward. An officer at the front of the vehicle fires three shots and the SUV travels a short distance before crashing into a parked car. The witness who took the video, Caitlin Callenson, said she was on a walk when she saw an ICE vehicle stuck in the snow. As more ICE vehicles arrived, bystanders blew whistles in protest, and the driver of the SUV tried to block the ICE vehicles. Callenson said she did not see ICE agents attempting to detain anyone leading up to or after the shooting. read more

The Arizona Supreme Court building was evacuated after a suspicious package was found. The package tested positive for homemade explosives. The Guardian reports: Arizona’s supreme court building was evacuated Monday morning after multiple vials that tested positive for a homemade explosive substance were sent to the building, according to the state’s department of public safety (DPS). At about 8am on Monday, DPS responded to reports of a “suspicious package”. Later that morning multiple agencies, including the US Bureau of alcohol firearms and tobacco responded. Around 10.30am Monday, staff at the Arizona supreme court building were sent home and the building was evacuated after a package in the building’s mailroom tested positive for explosives, 12News, Phoenix’s NBC affiliate reported. Officials said that a complete sweep of the building was conducted, and the package will be removed for disposal. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also responded to the building to take part in the investigation.
