My industry! Tons of reasons for this.

Most obvious is the regulatory environment. The nuclear industry in the US bound themselves in a regulatory knot to the point where it’s incredibly difficult to design, let alone construct, a nuclear power plant.

Labor cost is another thing. Obviously your average US worker (welder, construction contractors, etc) demand higher salaries, making the construction cost higher. A lot of this is also due to unions.

Then you have economies of scale. Because we are making less plants because of items 1 and 2, the US is making less nuclear plants, which mean we make less of them, which means we less economies of scale.

Then you have supply chain. China obviously has great manufacturing capability. The manufacturing is also highly regulated in the US, and we are largely reliant on global supply chains.

On the other side of government, interference, the Chinese government is literally subsidizing the construction of new nuclear power plants.
