These companies will play local governments off of each other using FOMO "well we could go over to Rust Belt county, and then THEY would get the six or seven full time jobs our project represents.
If data centers were things people wanted to live near they wouldn't be looking to build them in economically depressed areas. It only compound the crime that they want to skip out on paying taxes like local small businesses must, and expect concierge service for their massive utility needs.
