- Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is fresh air. A new life to the franchise. I'm #Forever28 and I'm enjoying it a lot more than DSC and SNW combined. For me, they finally went back to what Star Trek really is: tackling current real-world issues in a fictional story, the way many franchises originally were.

The thing about AI is that there's a huge gap with how it is viewed between the West (AU, EU, US) and Pacific-Asia (CJKM + ASEAN). In the West, it is generally hated no matter if you're using it responsibly. But here in Pacific-Asia, it's neutral but leaning slightly towards favourable.
In fact, just this week and last week (IIRC), various Pacific-Asian countries like the Philippines, South Korea, and Japan, had various agreements signed left and right with other Pacific-Asian countries and even in West Asia. Yes, top-level AI related agreements.
Many companies, especially in the BPO industry, are already using AI to augment the human agents. They use AI to improve the work of their human agents. (Of course, as the technology improves, the risk of getting replaced by a tool increases.)
What am I saying? We don't have a choice. I and some others warned about the AI era since 2015 but we were ignored and dismissed. People only reacted after it was too late to stop it. 🤷🏽 We already crossed the point of no return in 2020 (to be exact).
Is it bad for human creators? It will be if we don't control and shape it to our liking. And whether we like it or not, it is here to stay. It's too late to stop it.
Don't get me wrong. I am NOT saying you should use AI. I am NOT saying that it is okay. There are issues about it, and that's a fact. The best option we have left is to control and shape it to our liking. To push our governments to pass relevant legislations and to show companies that humans are still the best choice at the end of the day.

What's the meaning? Because it's actually written and pronounced as "mamser" not "mamsir" nor "ma'am/sir". And in the Philippine context, it's the English equivalent of our native languges's genderless and gender-neutral words and pronouns.

It's actually more accurately written as "mamser". That's how we differentiate between "mamser" and "ma'am/sir". Although in practice, no one really cares because mamser ma'am/sir is used in the Philippines as the English equivalent for our genderless and gender-neutral labels and pronouns like "sila", "nila", "kayo". It is __not__ referring to the person's gender.
Context is important. Cultural context most especially.

It actually became an issue a few years back when a FilAm visited the Philippines, went to a fastfood chain, and was called mamser. The FilAm went hysterical and was even recorded calling the crew to stand in front of her while she berated the poor crew from head to toe and supposedly educated the crew about "pronouns" and LGBTQ.
Guess what happened? The country's top LGBTQ voices spoke against her. There was one resounding reason: if you don't understand how things work in the Philippines, keep your cool. The FilAm misunderstood the "mamser" and she went hysterical and publicly shamed the crew.
She apologized and was reported to have returned to the US where she _allegedly_ started calling Filipinos racists and anti-LGBTQ.
There was absolutely nothing discriminatory about "mamser" or even "sir/mam" in the Philippine culture. It is polite formal speech and polite speech that is very common in our genderless and gender-neutral native languages and cultural rules that was brought into English, a language that is strictly gender-based.
The FilAm failed to consider that and went ballistic and tried educate Filipinos about her own foreign culture and sensitivities. (When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Meaning, don't bring your foreign culture and act like you're superior than them.)

But that's the problem with English, you need it. We don't need it in all Philippine languages (except Philippine English of course), Austronesian languages, and in East Asian languages.
Our native languages are gender-neutral and/or genderless (they're not the same). But English is neither.
- In English: What is your order, sir/mam/mamser? <- easiest way to be polite
- In Philippine languages and dialects: Ano po ang order nila? <- very formal and very polite speech level (highest level).
Now, if we bring in the culture factor, almost all Pacific-Asian (not Asia-Pacific which includes Oceania) cultures are deep into being polite and using polite speech, not to mention being formal in certain situations.
English lacks polite speech levels, and it's formal speech system is different from the way we Pacific-Asians think it should be. Thus, like in Philippine English, we have to find ways to bring our local languages and cultural requirements into English.
Like in the example above, mamser must be used.

I'm not sure what you meant by "servile bowing" and "scraping", but bowing by itself in Asian culture has nothing to do with demeaning yourself, it's an outward expression of respect.
Now, someone actually doing servile bowing are usually in a situation where they're begging for that someone to give them another chance or to forgive them. There's a context behind a servile bow which even non-Asians do. I mean, if you experience that situation where you're desperate, you don't think about it, your body just automatically moves.
But outside of that context, bowing is not a sign of being servile, it's an expression of respect. Asian cultures, even here in the Philippines, are very expressive when it comes to respect and being polite. We show it through actions and our words. (We have polite speech even in the Philippines, most people assume only Koreans and Japanese have polite speech rules.) It's not us lowering ourselves before someone.
Sure, I will agree that real servile bowing should be forgotten and we should instead stand our ground if we know we are right. But again,. cultures come into play. The common problem I've observed with complaints about time travel is that viewers subscribe to a specific time travel _theory_. If it doesn't match their "belief" they are either confused or claim "that's not how time travel works! Rated 1! The writer must be banned from writing and go back to elementary!"
For example, there was no grandfather paradox in the story if you apply other time travel _theories_. We don't even need the multiple worlds/timeline theory! We can solve it with a single timeline!
- Theory A: Time bubble. This is my favourite, I've thought about this since early 00s and I'm not the only one who came up with this independently. It just shows how this idea is very flexible and solves almost every time travel paradoxes.
- Theory B: Time always choose the best option to maintain a single timeline. The original reality where time travel hasn't happened yet was replaced. In the original reality, the FL travelled back in time through other means. Then she unknowingly changed history, one which led the king on writing the book. When he wrote the book, the original thing that brought her back through time transferred to that book. This reality is now gone, rewritten, replaced by the new reality where the book exist.
Single timeline. No grandfather paradox.

That's a very interesting interpretation and twist.
But changes on client-side is not a modification of their code. Their code remains intact, so there's no Copyright infringement.
What they're claiming is no different from saying that writing on a book or any modification on the book is Copyright infringement because you changed your copy of the book. How can it be when you did not violate the Economic Rights of the Publisher and the Moral Rights of the human authors?
It's the same with code residing client-side, it's just a copy so the browser can display the site. Whatever happens client-side is only available for that client. No Economic Rights of the Publisher was violated. No Moral Rights of the human authors were violated.
They're twisting things. But I do see how they're trying to play it. The problem here is that, if the judges don't understand the techie side, they'll easily believe their code was modified which everyone can then see, when in reality, it only happened client-side.

Yep! For me, these tools are fine as long as used proferly and responsibly. Like what you mentioned, for learning and improving.
I know of other people who also use these tools as an "editor", especially for those who don't have the means to hire a real editor. I think that's fine, they did work for it and simply used these tools to polish and detect errors.
Which in turn also helps us. A responsible user will definitely read the suggested output to check if it still is the same draft or turned into something else. And that gives a writer an idea where and how to improve. Slowly, they use it less and less, just as editors rarely check the work of seasoned writers.
But, yes, us being called AI or LLM, definitely depends on context. Hopefully more on the positive. 😆 Though I guess also depends on the delivery, which I find hard to interpret. 😅

Although, and a bit off-topic, have you experienced getting dismissed because you're not a degree holder? Since 2020, I noticed that more people are dismissive if you don't hold a relevant degree, as if something requires getting a degree to learn it.
I mean, it was already happening prior to 2020, but it has gotten worse and it's so frustrating if, as an autistic, it's a subject I focus on alot only to be dismissed just because, and then when later I was proven correct, still no acknowledgement or apologies for how they acted.

I am _not_ saying that Meta/Threads is good and everyone should use it; for these entities, they follow where their readers are and like it or not, their readers are in Threads. The most we can get currently is to get them to enable Fediverse Threads. We have to start somewhere.

Exactly! Beautifully explained.
For me, at least the way I explain it (which is not as good as you did), the fanart is a fanart. A derivative. A reinterpretation by a fan. It's no different from any other derivative and reinterpretation of characters into another gender or relationship.
If the fanart is invalid, then all other derivatives and reinterpretations are invalid. As well as fanfictions. (License issue aside of course.)

There seems to be a new Threads setting that I don't know where I can find: you can reply to posts but prevent the thread owner from replying to your reply.
It allows someone to invade your thread but you can't defend yourself. You can't link/quote it either.
