I don't know about that. Wordpress predates Docker by a decade. If you start trying to set up Docker containers for a Wordpress site then I think we've found the place where it all went wrong.
Self-hosting isn't necessary for censorship resistent posting. The only important thing is that a backup of the wordpress site are stored locally. Then you can use any web-hosting service of your choice, and redeploy your site with another service the moment they so much as look at you funny.

Also, I appreciate the response. You know, most people I hit with that one don't have a response at all, so I genuinely had no idea what you could even say back to me. I think that the fact that you had to devolve into a personal attack indicates that you can't articulate what is so essential about consuming media that it would be unreasonable to abstain from it, but the fact that you can argue that I don't necessarally abstain from all media consumption indicates that there IS some sort of argument in there to pull out.
Maybe I should lean into the critical thinking and independent thought aspect of my argument, so that something like posting comments on an internet forum would be very different from trying to read comics when one doesn't believe they deserve anything in return. What do you think? Any thoughts on what flaws my argument might have, or how I might improve it?

Eh, that may be true the vast majority of the time, but I don't know if that's the best argument. Like, could someone prove that sex acts with kids are harmful in EVERY case? Or if there are rare exceptions, how could someone prove to a pedophile that they in particular are incapable of identifying those exceptions? Not to mention that overly strong narratives about how bad sex acts with children are can themselves be harmful to children. "You didn't hate every part of your sexual experience? Personally I like to lean towards other arguments. My favorite is that sex is supposed to mean something (why else would it be so enjoyable?) and since most children are infertile, jobless losers who never graduated high school and who still live with their parents, sex acts with any of those children would be completely disgraceful.
The best part about this argument is that if the kid IS genuinely competent, you can twist a classic pro-contact argument on its head. Adults are all used up. If there are kids who would make for genuinely good parents and sexual partners, why in the world should they be with some gross, used up pedophile? If they really are that competent then they deserve someone closer to their own age.

A lot of times I'll see people online giving out this warning to programmers: "Woah! Be careful using that programming language feature! And so I'll check, and yes, it's not part of the language standard, but literally every compiler and platform supports it anyway because it's so useful, because it's so easy to implement, and because everybody uses it.

Yeah, people with thay kind of attitude don't make any sense to me. If most of society isn't on your side then you have to learn to get along with people who are different than you. Like, maybe if everyone was like me then I could justify being dismissive of the average person, but even if I don't change someone's mind on something it's still good practice to test new arguments and to hear what words someone uses to justify their position.
From what I've seen, most of the people who get banned from Twitter are pedophiles, so I think most people with similar beliefs to me wouldn't see a huge need to join Nostr either way unless they felt REALLY strongly about those beliefs, like me, or unless they were a pedophile, also like me.

You're right that most content can't be found here, so you're also right that that's not what I meant by "objective." To me, objectivity isn't about considering every possible source, because there are an infinite number of those, and that would be impossible. It also isn't about considering only all the relevant perspectives for a given topic either, since listening to other people is neither sufficient nor necessary to obtain that perspective.
No, my view of objectivity is that it is more of about an attitude towards foreign ideas rather than being about the ideas themselves. Someone is objective when they share their beliefs on a topic without reservation and when they are willing to engage on a topic with anyone who would engage back.
Sure, Nostr doesn't have as many beliefs being expressed as other platforms, and maybe those beliefs aren't even as diverse as on other platforms. But at the very least on Nostr every user ensures that anyone who wants to talk with them is able to reach out.

Liking privacy and freedom is a hobby in my eyes. I don't use Linux or Android for practical reasons, I use them because I like the IDEA of using them. The thing that isn't a hobby in my eyes is the choice to use a platform that doesn't give third parties control over who I can talk withand who can talk with me. I don't believe anyone on the internet can call themselves objective without choosing a platform like Nostr. And if someone isn't trying to be objective then they are no better than anyone who traps themselves in an echo chamber.
I'm not exclusively on Nostr, so I still maintain that if your goal is to hang out with people who like decentralization, then I think the best solution is a centralized echo chamber filled with decentralization lovers like me.

You know, I don't really see a huge problem with liking a particular cryptocurrency or following any particular influencer. I myself am following at least one person I don't particularly like and I'm following multiple people who have me muted. If I can follow people I don't like then why can't you follow people I don't like? Seems fair to me.
The real clown-maker is if you are ONLY here because of the content and the people on this platform and not at all due to the fundamental traits of the protocol itself. It seems to me that a great deal of people on Nostr could just as easily have formed a Mastadon instance, a Discord server, or any number of other options for organizing a community of like-minded individuals. I've said it before, but I would still post here even if I was the only user left. I'm never leaving unless some other platform comes around that gives users exclusive control over their own accounts.

The internet is the reason I had to qualify my statement with "or second most important". The internet and its ability to transport ideas is very important for society. My only counter argument is that cars are more versetile. They can transmit physical goods in ADDITION to ideas. In fact, when it comes to transmitting information, I've seen people say that in some circumstances, transmitting data over the internet can genuinely be slower and more expensive than loading everything onto flash drives and shipping it across the country. Though obviously cars are only better for transmitting information in very, very specific circumstances.

What about Smash Bros Melee players? It is commonly said that the biggest draw of that hobby is the opportunity it gives for people to express aspects of their preferences and style through their gameplay choices. It seems to me that they are stroking their ego not only on the fact that they are able to do something most people can't, but the fact that they are doing it with a style most people don't. Is Smash Bros a hobby for a person like that? Are those the right reasons to enjoy a hobby?
I myself have a physical hobby like you, and while I also can't perform as well as the best, the most fun I have at that hobby came when I started performing it in a way that I felt was unique to me. My hobbies are certainly like puzzles, but like jigsaw puzzles, the fun is in the freedom you have, the choices you make, and the strategies you follow. A hobby without freedom, strategy, and expression is no hobby at all.
And when every option that interests you is something you've already seen the outcome of from other people's actions, I believe it spoils the hobby. Any counter example you can come up with would only be fun due to additional choices and outcomes that you haven't yet seen.
I think you underestimate the strength of my ego. I already said that I didn't move on to something else. In a way, my personal anecdote is a bad example because while our code was superficially similar, the actual goals I had chosen were still different from the library's creator. Just because artists aren't often interested in replicating existing paintings that they have seen, that doesn't mean they avoid using the same colors or brush strokes too, simply because there is still a choice that differentiates them.

Damn, lol, I apologize.
My original post was based on how the imfamous League of Legends streamer Tyler1 started really getting into chess, spending tens of thousands of games perfecting the "cow" opening, and ONLY the cow opening. He invested far more time into it than the opening's creator.
I really hate to talk about my personal life, but maybe the closest thing involving me is when I used a programming library that was missing some features, so I implemented those features myself. But then the creator of the library implemented those features themselves without ever seeing anything I did. In other words, if I had done nothing at all and just waited then the problem would have solved itself. Though I was actually USING the library, so I didn't have a real reason to move on.
Do you have any hypothetical scenarios where someone might experience something like this, but the solution couldn't ever be to move on to something else?

I don't think that's a particularly good question; it assumes I believe there are different kinds of happy, and even if I do believe in different kinds of happy, my answer is only really useful if we have some kind of agreement on what those kinds are.
For example, I could tell you that I believe in pursuing fulfilment above all else, but I would have no way of knowing whether you accept "fulfilling" and "not fulfilling" as forms of happiness. (They can feel identical after all.)
Could you give me more to work with possibly?

I mean that I want to learn and explore interesting things and try things that nobody has ever done before. If the retard is doing it for me and I can learn from him instead then I can just learn from him instead of going through all the effort myself. If I've seen lots of people doing something and I've witnessed the consequences then there's less novelty. If someone you know already explored somewhere then visiting that place makes you a tourist, and not an explorer anymore.
Maybe I'll try to stand on top of their shoulders and add a unique twist. Or maybe I'll do something else. Otherwise there are ways that I could be legitimately getting in that person's way by continuing to pursue something that they have made better progress at. Is there something wrong with acting on one's ego? Because I see nothing wrong with my position. I genuinely don't even know what the word "ego" means anymore. Please justify your criticism; I'm receptive.

The wizard must travel the world, relearning the old ways and convincing society that soul annihilation isn't enough in a world where the first response to a high level technological threat is to start development on "greater soul annihilation."

Well obviously I presented this feeling as irrational, but if your are looking for an interpretation of our underlying instinct and a meaning behind us feeling threatened then I think I can come up with something.
I believe we worry that even if someone pursues something superficially matching your own goals they might miss the deeper meaning and goals behind your actions. Even if they are immitating you in some shallow way, they might still be "doing it wrong", and you are afraid that you aren't good enough to articulate a proper correction to their behavior.
There's also the idea that the only reason you chose your current hobby is because you believed you had something unique to contribute, and it might upset you that they apparently didn't realize what they were doing wasn't unique, didn't consider all of the other options available to them, or they didn't somehow give an indication that there was a prior interest in pursuing that exact thing you have focused on.
Anyway, I guess the point of my post isn't to say that feeling bad at "being replaced" is wrong, but rather that it's wrong to think you are the only one who can provide value to the world or generally achieve fulfilment in your specific way. Anyone can do what I do. They just often don't. And if they ever do, it will suck, objectively, but in order to live in the real world I just have to be prepared to do something else if that time ever comes.

So I found a very provocative piece of art. I really wanted to understand the context behind it, so I looked it up. I found out that the person behind the project the art was a part of was a really controversial figure in his community.
So what happened is that a group of people got their intellectual property used without permission by a guy- no, the community wasn't upset about him. Anyway, that guy made some art, but another guy took his intellectual property without permission, and- what? No! The community wasn't upset about him either, jeez. Anyway, so another group of people took that guy's intellectual property without permission, and the guy who took their intellectual property without permission is the one everybody was angry at.
In order to finally understand what the art was about, I had to follow a citation link in a wiki about another wiki, and I got to that wiki wiki by following a citation link in another wiki.
I swear the Friday Night Funkin' community is full of degenerates, children, and degenerate children. God damn.
